Bluff Spring Break

Kreische Brewery and Monument Hill State Historic Sites are excited to welcome the new Spring season with the third annual Spring Break on the Bluff, a family- friendly series of programs showcasing the sites’ unique history. Currently running through Sunday, March 16, this event offers activities inspired by 19th-century crafts, food practices, and pastimes. Each program will be held from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. and is included with sites admission.

Senior Game Day

The La Grange Senior Citizen Activity Center, Inc. will host Game Day on Thursday, March 13, from 9 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. at the City of La Grange Randolph Recreation Center. Legion, Auxiliary

The American Legion Post No. 102 and the American LegionAuxiliary Unit No. 102 will meet for their regular monthly meeting on Wednesday, March 12 at 6 p.m. at the VFW Home located at Veterans Memorial Drive at the Fair Grounds in La Grange. Members are encouraged to attend and help celebrate the American Legion Veterans Organizations’ 106th Birthday. The first American Legion caucus convened in Paris, France on March 15, 1919. The Post and Unit are looking to increase membership, so interested Veterans and Auxiliary are welcome to attend.

Sages & Saints Presents Beware of Scams

New Life Methodist Church in La Grange Sages & Saints will present Beware of Scams with Sergeant Angela Lala on Thursday, March 13 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall. She has been with the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office for more than 18 years. Some of her many duties at the Sheriff’s Office include supervising the Criminal Investigations Division where she is over the Investigators, the Undercover Narcotics Unit, and the Crisis Intervention Investigator. Lala has been a dedicated hardworking leader and supervisor, which has helped this agency be on a straight path to success in serving the Fayette County community. There will be a pot-luck in conjunction, please bring a dish to share. Join in the fellowship hall and bring a friend.

DYD Club Meeting

The DYD (Do Your Duty) Club of Round Top will hold their next meeting on Thursday, March 13 at the Round Top Courthouse. The social time will be from 5:30 - 6 p.m. with the business meeting beginning at 6 p.m. All members are encouraged to attend.

Fun Family Movie Event

Spring break is here, and it is movie time! Join the Fayette Public Library for a fun family movie event on Thursday, March 13, from 4:30-7 p.m. The library will be showing “Brave,” rated PG. Set in Scotland in a rugged and mythical time, this movie features Princess Merida, an aspiring archer and daughter of Queen Elinor. Merida makes a reckless choice that unleashes unintended peril and forces her to spring into action to set things right. The library will provide pizza, popcorn, and ice cream floats for everyone to enjoy. This event is registration only; call or stop by the library to reserve your spot. La Grange KC Fish Fry

The La Grange Knights of Columbus will host a drive-thru only Fish Fry Fundraiser Friday, March 14 from 4-6 p.m. at the La Grange K of C Community Center located at 190 S. Brown St. in La Grange. The meal will consist of fried fish, hushpuppies, cole slaw, pinto beans and buttered potatoes for $15 per plate. The meal is on a first come, first served basis.

Annual Plant and Gift Sale

The Pioneer Unit of the Herb Society of America is holding its annual plant and gift sale Friday, March 14 and Saturday, March 15, 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. both days. There will be a wide variety of bedding plants, herbs, shrubs, roses, succulents, and more. The gift shop will have lovely garden gifts, food items, books and other treasures. Public Square Rosary Crusade

KJZT St. Anne’s Society No. 10, Fayetteville, is coordinating a Public Square Rosary Crusade in support of traditional marriage. Everyone is invited to join in praying the Rosary on the Fayetteville square, Saturday, March 15 at noon. KJZT Family Life is a Fraternal Benefit Society founded in 1894 by Czech catholic women. Now offering memberships to all Texans, the fraternal organization is committed to strengthening its members’ lives through Catholic faith and community service while offering financial security.

Annual Herbal Forum

You can be a part of Unlocking the Mysteries of Herb Superpowers at the Pioneer Unit’s annual herbal forum. With expert speakers on topics such as restoring biodiversity to your soil and the healing chemicals of herbs, this day-long forum includes a herb-infused luncheon and demonstrations and interactions with the speakers. It will be held Saturday, March 15, 9 a.m.- 4 p.m. Registration is required. Find out more at festivalhill.org/events Shelby American Legion Turkey Stew Shelby American Legion Post 602 will host their annual original hand made Shelby turkey stew fundraiser on Saturday, March 15 at the Post Hall located at 4019 FM 1457 in Shelby. Sale begins at 2 p.m. Cost is $35 a gallon. Bring your own containers. Come early for a gallon or two of turkey stew and get some desserts too. Auxiliary Unit 602 will be holding a bake sale in conjunction.

Vietnam Veterans Meeting

Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 870 will meet on the third Wednesday of the month at 7 p.m. at the Ammannsville KJT Hall located in Ammannsville. Food and refreshments will be available after the meeting. Members and prospective members are encouraged to attend.

Marine Corps League Meeting

The Colorado County Wildlife Management Association’s (CCWMA) Banquet is scheduled for 4 p.m. Saturday, March 15, at the Columbus Hall in Columbus. There is no cost to attend. Meal tickets will be available for purchase for a barbecue meal at 6 p.m. There will be a demonstration on the use of the Pig Brig Trapping System by Aaron Sumrall as well as a presentation on the status and management efforts of waterfowl by TPWD Wetland/Waterfowl Specialist Stephen McDowell. Enjoy card raffles, bucket raffles, a buck scoring contest, drawing for the big raffle, and vendors with merchandise to look over and purchase. All Wildlife Management Association members are encouraged to attend and the general public is also invited.

St. Patrick’s Day Concert

Round Top Family Library will present The Red Barn Crows, Louis Sellers and Craig Dinsmor on Sunday, March 16 from 4-6 p.m. at the Annex Porch. Come enjoy a St. Patrick’s Day Concert on the annex lawn and wear your green. Bring your own chair, blanket, snacks and drinks. This event is free and open to the public.

VFW Post 5254 & Auxiliary to Meet

On Tuesday, March 18, Fayette Memorial VFW Post No. 5254 and Auxiliary of La Grange will meet in the VFW Post Home at the La Grange Fairgrounds. The Auxiliary meets at 5 p.m. and at 6 p.m. the Post and Auxiliary will enjoy a meal after which the Post meets. Potential members are invited to attend.

Winedale Zoom Talk

The Infamous Prisoner: San Jacinto, SantaAnna, and the Texas Warship Invincible: On Tuesday, March 18 at noon, historian Jim Beville will tell the little-known story Santa Anna’s eightmonth incarceration in Texas following his defeat at the Battle of San Jacinto. The chain of events that took place afterward his defeat an agreement to withdraw troops, the Treaty of Velasco, his guarantee of safe passage home on a Texas warship, its repudiation, a lynch mob, a second confinement followed by a bizarre plot to free him all led to Santa Anna being held as a prisoner of war in Brazoria county in the summer and fall of 1836. Artists and Artisans Wanted

Round Top has the largest design/antique show in the country. The Square Fair on the Courthouse Square is looking for upscale artists and artisans to show/sell their creative art on the square during the Spring Antiques show March 22-30. You must show in a white tent and spaces will be sold in multiples of 10x10 spacing. A safe, secure spot for you to show your art and security will be provided for $525 for the entire nine day show. Ukulele Group Lessons

The Round Top Family Library partnering with Arts for Rural Texas will host free Ukulele Group Lessons for ages 8 and up. Instructor will be Debbie Bridgewater. Ukulele group lessons are held on Mondays from 4:30-5:30 p.m. from March through December (three Mondays per month). No ukulele? No problem. We can loan you one.
