The Fayetteville/Ellinger Knights of Columbus No. 3168 will hold a to-go “Gumbo to Geaux” of chicken and sausage gumbo on Friday, Feb. 21 at St. John Parish Hall-Fayetteville, 207 E. Natural Medicine: Prevention & Healing
Think OrganicAcademy will offer a free class, Natural Medicine: Prevention and Healing, at the Randolph Recreation Center in La Grange, Sunday, Feb. 23, 2-4 p.m. The class is presented by David E. Will, who has taught continuing education classes on Natural Medicine for 35 years. David is not a doctor and has nothing to sell. This class is for educational and informational purposes only. KC Domino Tournament
The La Grange Knights of Columbus will host a Domino Tournament, Straight and 42, on Sunday, Feb. 23 at the KC Hall located at 190 S. Brown St. in La Grange. Registration at 9 a.m., play at 10 a.m. A barbecue meal will be available for the players.
Pork Steak Fundraiser
The Holy Cross Warda Youth Group annual pork steak fundraiser will be held Sunday, March 9. Drive thru only at the Holy Cross picnic grounds from 10 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. Plates are $15 each and include: pork steak, green beans, noodles, and corn. Tickets are presale only by Thursday, Feb. 27 and may be purchased at Holy Cross Lutheran Church or La Grange Chevron. Baked goods will also be available for a freewill donation.
Scholarship Applicants For Texas A&M
Seniors of Fayette County high schools and past graduates of the county’s schools, who are currently enrolled in a junior college or other institution of higher learning, and planning to attend Texas A&M University, are strongly encouraged to apply for the Fayette County Texas A&M Scholarship. The scholarship requires an applicant to be a resident of Fayette County, have attended high school in Fayette County, have made application to Texas A&M, and be a full time student. Applications for the scholarship can be obtained in the high school counselor’s office. Applications must be completed and turned into their counselor or mailed no later than March 1.
Czech Heritage Society Scholarships
The Czech Heritage Society of Texas (CHS) will award two scholarships in 2025, the Victor Peter Memorial Scholarship and the Albert J. Blaha Memorial Scholarship. Instructions for applying are on the CHS Website, https://czechheritage-texas.org/ or contact Richard Skopik, at (254) 640-2179 or email at roadwac5@ aol.com. Graduating Texas high school seniors in 2025 are eligible. Applicants need not be members of CHS. The Albert J. Blaha Memorial Scholarship is also open to first-year college students with less than 30 credit hours. The Victor Peter Memorial Scholarship is a $500 award and the Albert J. Blaha Memorial Scholarship is a $1000 award. All items required for applying must be submitted and postmarked by March 3.
Vietnam Veterans Meeting
Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 870 will meet on the third Wednesday of the month at 7 p.m. at the Ammannsville KJT Hall located in Ammannsville. Food and refreshments will be available after the meeting. Members and prospective members are encouraged to attend.
Al-Anon Meetings in Bastrop
Al-Anon meetings are held every Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. at United Methodist Church located at 1201 Main St. in Bastrop. Grief Support Groups Begin in February The Grief Support Groups at Hospice Brazos Valley will resume in February. The Alzheimer’s/Dementia Support group will be held monthly on the second Tuesday of every month from 10-11 a.m. at the Hospice Brazos Valley office, 1048 N. Jefferson, La Grange. Loss of a Spouse Support Group will be held monthly on the third Tuesday of every month from 10-11:30 a.m. at the Hospice Brazos Valley office. Loss of a Child support group will be held monthly on the fourth Tuesday of every month from 10-11:30 a.m. at the Hospice Brazos Valley office. Proper Flag Disposal Drop Off Locations The Texas Heroes Museum located at 171 S. Main in La Grange accepts old flags for proper disposal. The drop-off bin is inside the museum which is open 1-4 p.m. Friday, 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday, and 1-4 p.m. Sunday. If leaving flags outside the door when the museum is closed, please have them in a plastic bag or a box so that they are not laying on the ground.
