German Society
The Fayette County Chapter of Texas German Society will meet Monday, Jan. 27 at 4 p.m. at Randolph Rec Center located at 653 E. Pearl in La Grange. Everyone is invited to attend. Outings and meeting agenda will be discussed. Members should bring snacks or dessert.
CDA Bunco
Catholic Daughters Court Annunciation No. 1962 presents an afternoon of Bunco on Sunday, Feb. 2 at the KC Community Center located at 190 Brown St. in La Grange. Registration begins at 2 p.m. and game starts at 3 p.m. Cost is $35 per person (only 200 tickets will be sold). $250 for most buncos, $200 for most wins, $100 for second most wins, and $50 for most losses. There’s more The 4th annual Texas Blacksmithing Exposition & the Hume L. Baker Texas Antique Gas Engine Reunion will be held Jan. 24-25, at the Texas Czech Heritage & Cultural Center’s Czech Village grounds in La Grange, beginning at noon on Friday for early exhibits and vendors, and opens at 9 a.m. on Saturday. On Saturday, the Aggie Blacksmithing Club will present this year’s main featured sessions. Beginning Blacksmithing will be the focus for the sessions as the Expo works to build interest and education in blacksmithing. Other sessions will take place throughout the day. The TCHCC and Village will be open for touring. The Zapalac Saw Mill and the Czech Newspapers Museum will be in operation. Concessions will also be available. Fundraiser For California Fire Victims
The Rotary Club of La Grange will be raising money for the victims of the California fires on Thursday, Jan. 30 from 5-7 p.m. at Mac’s Daqs located at 108 W. Colorado in La Grange. Mac’s Daqs will have a special drink menu for the event. A portion of the proceeds from the purchase of those drinks will go to the relief effort. There will be a bucket raffle with prizes donated by local businesses. The Rotary Club of La Grange will match funds up to $2,000. All money will be sent to the Rotary District 5280 Charitable Foundation.
Casino Arts Association Dinner & A Movie
The Casino Arts Association is hosting Dinner & A Movie on Saturday, Feb. 8, at the Historic Casino Hall. “The Villain,” a western comedy, starring Kirk Douglas, Ann-Margaret and Arnold Schwarzenegger will be the movie shown. The tickets are $20 per person which includes cost of the movie and a delicious meal of King Ranch casserole, salad, chips, and dessert. The Rose offers early detection advantages of state-of-the-art 3D digital imaging and smart curve paddle. The Rose accepts most insurance and sponsors no cost/low cost to qualified individuals. The deadline to register is Jan. 27 Movie ‘For The Record’ in Flatonia The League of Women Voters of South Central Texas invites the public to a free screening of the 2024 film “For the Record” on Sunday, Feb. 2 at 3 p.m., at the Lyric Theater in Flatonia, 120 E. South Main St. The 35-minute documentary about the closing of a small-town paper in the Texas Panhandle will be followed by a panel discussion featuring local newspaper editors and publishers on sustaining a local, independent press in challenging times. All are welcome and encouraged to attend: no registration required, no admission charged.
