AMEN Closure
Because of the expected winter weather next week, the AMEN Food Pantry in La Grange will not distribute food as scheduled next Tuesday, Jan. 21. They were already closed Monday Jan. 20 because of MLK Day. They will reopen for distribution the following Monday, Jan. 27, as normal.
Opry Cancelled
Because of the threat of icy weather Monday night, the Country Music Opry at the KC Hall in La Grange Jan. 20 is cancelled. They will resume next month.
Library Storytime
Storytime at the library – Enjoy great stories, fun themes, songs, and a craft. Storytime is a great way for children ages infant to 5 years old to build early literacy, creativity, and social skills. LG Little League

Garbage Schedule

There’s more The City of La Grange has designated Saturday, Jan. 18 as Residential Bulk Curbside Pick-Up Day for the hard to dispose of bulky items. Waste Management will pick up one free load of bulky items on this day. All items should be within three feet of the curb by Friday evening. Trucks will be starting at 7 a.m. on Saturday morning to pick up items for La Grange Utility Customers. Bulk items include: stoves, refrigerators and air conditioners which have been tagged and certified as being “freon free” by a licensed technician, microwaves, water heaters, washing machines/ dryers, barbecues, mattresses, chairs, recliners, couches and other furniture. Bulk items not included: tires, paint, chemicals, batteries, tile/toilets/bath tubs, mirrors/glass, cinder blocks/ bricks/rocks, construction debris, televisions/computer monitors, motor oil or used filters. Blood Drive in Fayetteville
The Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center will conduct a Blood Drive on Jan. 18 from 8 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. in front of the old firestation on the Square in Fayetteville. Drop ins are welcome or you can contact Jonathan Noska at (979) 966-9569 to make an appointment. The drive is sponsored by the Fayetteville Knights of Columbus but everyone is invited. The need for blood is great.
Dolly Parton Tribute Mass
On Jan. 19, America’s beloved Dolly Parton turns 79 years old. Saint Cecilia’s Round Top, a creative spiritual community, celebrates her birthday with a special service featuring many of Dolly’s most beloved songs including Coat of Many Colors, Light of a Clear Blue Morning, I Will Always Love You, Little Sparrow, Better Get to Livin’ and many others. The Dolly Parton Tribute Mass will be on Sunday, Jan. 19 at 10:30 a.m. at the historic Round Top Dance Hall, 550 N. Washington in Round Top. The service will feature an all-star group of musicians including David Pulkingham, Stephen Mansolo, Bobby McDonald, Jerry Holmes and Rob Kazenel as well as outstanding vocalists Kelly Vohnn (from Las Vegas), Amanda Waites, Ashley Monical and Ellen Melissa Story. The service will also feature a sermon and spiritual reflections by priest and author William B. Miller. Donations will be accepted to support Dolly’s Imagination Library program for young readers through the Round Top Family Library. This event is free and open to the public. VFW Post No. 5254, Auxiliary Meeting On Tuesday, Jan. 21, Fayette Memorial VFW Post No. 5254 and Auxiliary of La Grange will meet in the VFW Post Home at the La Grange Fairgrounds. The Auxiliary meets at 5 p.m. and at 6 p.m. the Post and Auxiliary will enjoy a meal after which the Post meets. Potential members are invited to attend.
Library Movie Nights

Round Top Hermann Sons Meeting Round Top Hermann Sons Lodge No. 151 will meet Thursday, Jan. 23 at the Round Top American Legion Hall. Social time at 6 p.m. and meeting starts at 6:30 p.m. Members bring sandwiches and other items for the meal following the meeting.
La Grange Garden Club
The La Grange Garden Club’s January monthly meeting is a field trip on Thursday, Jan. 23. First, lunch at Ere’s at 108 S. Main St. in La Grange at 11 a.m. and at 12 noon off to tour the Hero’s Museum located at 171 S. Main St. in La Grange guided by Charlie Murray. A couple of the points of interest to view will be Fayette County soldiers involvement in the Vietnam War and Sheriff Flornoy’s office as it appeared during the “Chicken Ranch” period. Join them for this excursion to broaden your knowledge and awareness of the community and its history. The La Grange Garden Club meets every fourth Thursday of the month at the Randolph Recreation Center located at 653 E. Pearl St. with social time at 11:30 a.m. and speakers at noon. Come make new friends and learn some gardening times.
RT-C Gifted & Talented Nominations The Round Top-Carmine Independent School District requests nominations for Gifted/Talented students in Kindergarten. Nominations will be accepted from RTC staff, parents, and community members. The state defines a gifted and talented student as, “a child or youth who performs at or shows the potential for performing at a remarkably high level of accomplishment when compared to others of the same age, experience, or environment.” They should also, “exhibit high performance capability in an intellectual, creative, or artistic area, possess an unusual capacity for leadership, or excel in a specific academic field”.
