BBQ & Bake Sale
The St. James Episcopal Men’s Club (Holy Smokers) will hold a BBQ and the Women will hold a bake sale Saturday, Jan.11, from 10:30 a.m. - 1 p.m. or until sold out at 156 N. Monroe St. across from H-E-B. A half chicken is $6 and sausage link is $7, drive through only. This barbecue is for the benefit of the Gardenia E. Janssen Animal Shelter.
Farmers Market
The Weimar Farmers Market will be held Saturday, Jan. 11, always the second Saturday of the month, at the City Pavilion/Municipal Park located at 106 W. Market St. in Weimar. The market is open from at 8 a.m. - noon. Vendors are needed and the fee is $15.
Fried Chicken
The La Grange Knights of Columbus Chromcik Council No. 2574 will hold a drivethru only fried chicken and sausage dinner benefitting local charities on Sunday, Jan. 12 from 10:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. at the Community Center located at 190 Brown St. in La Grange. The meal will included fried chicken, sausage, sauerkraut, green beens and buttered potatoes for $15 per plate. First come, first served.
There’s more Hermann Sons Life Shelby will meet Sunday, Jan. 12 for its quarterly meeting at Harmonie Hall in Shelby beginning at 5 p.m. Members are asked to bring a snack or dessert.
Retired Teachers Meeting
The Fayette County Retired Teachers Association will meet on Monday, Jan. 13 in the Fellowship Hall of the New Life Methodist Church, 1215 Von Minden Road in La Grange, for a chapter meeting at 1:45 p.m. All retired teachers and school personnel are welcome to attend. Teacher Appreciation baskets will be prepared for Fayette County schools. Bring goodies and snacks to celebrate our hardworking educators.
Winedale Talk: The Great Storm of 1900
On Wednesday, Jan. 15 at noon, award-winning historian Andrew Torget will discuss the improbable rise of Galveston from an abandoned sandbar in 1836 to its emergence as the most important port city in the American Southwest by 1895. Then, in 1900, the most violent hurricane in American history destroyed Galveston, obliterating the city like a modern-day Atlantis and remaking both Texas and the American Southwest once more. Faison House Museum Grand Opening The N.W. Faison House invites the public to the grand opening of its new museum exhibit, Thriving Through God’s Grace, on Saturday, Jan. 18 at 2 p.m. The exhibit honors its African American connection.
ChiliCook Off
The Round Top Family Library 20th Annual Chili Cook-Off will be held Sunday, Jan. 19 at 12 p.m. at the Round Top Rifle Hall. Music will be by the Black Cat Choir. Proper Flag Disposal Drop Off Locations The Texas Heroes Museum located at 171 S. Main in La Grange accepts old flags for proper disposal. The drop-off bin is inside the museum which is open 1-4 p.m. Friday, 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday, and 1-4 p.m. Sunday. If leaving flags outside the door when the museum is closed, please have them in a plastic bag or a box so that they are not laying on the ground.
Grief Group
Hospice Brazos Valley is offering a Caregivers Support group. This is a monthly support group for caregivers of loved ones who have a terminal or chronic diagnosis.
