Archeology Day
Kreische Brewery and Monument Hill State Historic Sites will host its fourth annual Archeology Day on Saturday, Oct. 12, from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. This family-friendly public event offers a perfect weekend outing to explore the historic sites while discovering the fascinating world of Texas archeology. BBQ & Bake Sale
The St. James Episcopal Men’s Club (Holy Smokers) will hold a barbecue and the Women will hold a bake sale Saturday, Oct. 12 from 10:30 a.m. - 1 p.m. or until sold out, at 156 N. Monroe St. across from H-E-B. A half chicken is $6 and sausage link si $7, drive through only. This barbecue is for the benefit of Meals on Wheels.

American Legion Post No. 10, Auxiliary
TheAmerican Legion Post No. 102 and theAmerican Legion Auxiliary Unit No. 102 will meet for their regular monthly meeting on Wednesday, Oct. 9 at 6 p.m. at the VFW Home located at Veterans Memorial Drive at the Fayette County Fairgrounds in La Grange. The Auxiliary District President Irene Szwarc will be in attendance. Members are encouraged to attend the meetings of both the Post and the Unit to discuss their routine business matters. The Auxiliary 2025 Membership Dues may be paid at this meeting. New potential members are invited to attend. A meal will be served prior to the business meeting.

Turtle Wing Hosts Monthly Meetings
Turtle Wing hosts monthly parent and family support groups for families who have children with learning challenges. Turtle Wing’s New Family Support Group meets every second Monday of the month on a rotating location basis in order to make the group accessible to all Turtle Wing families in their service area (Fayette, Lavaca, and Colorado Counties). Bring your children for fun activities and snacks while you meet and connect with other Turtle Wing parents. The next meeting will be Monday, Oct. 14 at the Turtle Wing office located at 1203 S. Columbus Day Garbage Schedule La Grange city offices will be closed on Monday, Oct. 14 for the Columbus Day Holiday. The week of Oct. 14-18 is garbage and recycle week. VFW Post 5254, Auxiliary to Meet On Tuesday, Oct. 15, Fayette Memorial VFW Post 5254 and Auxiliary of La Grange will meet in the VFW Post Home at the La Grange Fairgrounds. Fayette County Republican Women The public is invited to attend the Fayette County Republican Women General Meeting on Wednesday, Oct. 16, from 11 a.m. - 2 p.m., at Frisch Auf! The Senator led an aggressive campaign for Texas and the people she represents in the 2023 legislative session. Texas Czech Heritage Fest
The Texas Czech Heritage & Cultural Center in La Grange announces the entertainment for the 2024 Heritage Fest on Oct. 18-19. The Dujka Brothers will again headline the Friday evening kickoff with Octoberfest on the Deck from 6-9:30 p.m. Saturday will see the Moravians Band and Praha Brothers Band in the Hospoda (tavern) Pavilion from 11a.m.-5:30 p.m. The CzechMates Trio featuring Alfred Vrazel will be in the Fraternal Mutual Pavilion from 12-3 p.m. The finale Saturday evening will be the Tribute to the Baca Orchestras re-created at the Sanford Schmid Amphitheater from 7-9:30 p.m.with a big fireworks show to conclude the Fest. Genealogy Workshop at Library
The Fayette Heritage Museum and Archives is offering a free workshop that includes eight streamed genealogy programs on Friday, Oct. 18 from 9 a.m. - 6:30 p.m. You may attend one or all of the sessions which will take place in the meeting room of the Fayette Public Library located at 855 S. Pumpkin Patch Fundraiser Join MomCo of Fayette County on Friday, Oct. 18 from 10 a.m. - 10 p.m. for face painting, paint a pumpkin, train rides, bounce house and food music and drinks. General admission is $5 and admission with activity band is $10. 10% of proceeds will benefit MomCo of Fayette County. Activities will take place at 1067 Hwy. 71 W. in Bastrop.
Mobile Food Truck
The Central Texas Food Pantry mobile food truck will be at the Waldeck Lutheran Church on Oct. 19. It is a drive-thru distribution from 10-11 a.m. Volunteers are also needed.
A fundraiser for Dana Srubar will be held Saturday, Oct. 19 at Shorty’s Bar in Winchester. Dana is battling Metastatic Carcinoma. Harvest Festival
Martin Luther Lutheran Church Harvest Festival will be held on Sunday, Oct. 20 at the Carmine Hall. Worship service begins at 9:30 a.m. Confirmation classes ending in the years 4 and 9 will be recognized. Krause Duo will lead the worship music.A meal of pork ribeye and sausage, potatoes, and green beans will be served from 11 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. Meal tickets are $15. A drawing will be held and those tickets are one for $20 or three for $50. Tickets may be purchased at the church office and Carmine State Bank. Desserts will be available for a donation. La Grange Garden Club
The La Grange Garden Club will be hosting a hands on event for creating a fall center piece using live plants. Becky McKay, of Giddings Nursery, will be the quest speaker. She will bring all the needed supplies and plants for the centerpiece. In addition to how to assemble. Ms. McKay will give care instructions and possibilities for the plants after fall in the garden. Also learn how to use plants from your garden for future centerpieces for holidays and celebrations, or even as gifts. Cost of the project is $25. LaGrange Garden Club meets at the Randolph Recreation Center every fourth Thrusday of the month beginning at 11:30 a.m. with social time and the meeting at 12 noon. Stray Gathering Cowboy Church Festival
The Stray Gathering Cowboy Church located at 211 W. FM 2237 Muldoon will have a Fall Festival Saturday, Oct. 26 from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. Chuckwagon lunch consisting of cowboy stew, cornbread, biscuits and a dessert will be served for $10. Children 10 and under eat free. Kids games, cake walk, dummy ropin’, and pony rides. A live auction will take place under the pavilion at 1 p.m.

Nominations For Gifted & Talented Nominations for La Grange ISD Gifted and Talented program for kindergarten students are open until Nov. 1. If you would like to nominate a child for the gifted and talented screening process, fill out a parent/community nomination form and return it to the La Grange Elementary School office. Proper Flag Disposal Drop Off
The Texas Heroes Museum located at 171 S. Main in La Grange accepts old flags for proper disposal. The drop-off bin is inside the museum which is open 1-4 p.m. Friday, 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday, and 1-4 p.m. Sunday. If leaving flags outside the door when the museum is closed, please have them in a plastic bag or container.
