Theatre

Art After School is partnering with Arts for Rural Texas. Ballet class on Wednesdays, beginner friendly ballet focusing on practicing and perfecting skills for students interested in the arts for grades K-2. JMG Kids Garden class is also on Wednesdays. Kids will learn the art and science of gardening for grades 4th, 5th and 6th graders. All classes begin in September from 4-5:15 p.m. Registration required for all classes. Fayette County Community Theatre will hold open auditions for the play The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance Monday, Sept. 9 at 5:30 p.m. at the Sanford Schmid Amphitheater on the grounds of the Texas Czech Heritage and Cultural Center, La Grange. Performances will be Nov. 8-10. Characters are six males, one female. Details and audition readings are on the Fayette County Community Theatre website at faycotheatre. com.

Legion, Auxiliary

The American Legion Post No. 102 and the American Legion Auxiliary Unit No. 102 will meet for their regular monthly meeting on Wednesday, Sept. 11 at 6 p.m. at the VFW Home located at Veterans Memorial Drive at the Fairgrounds in La Grange. The joint session will include the POW/MIA Ceremony, followed by a light meal. The Post and Auxiliary Unit will then continue their regular business meetings. Members are encouraged to attend, and potential new members are always welcome.

A presentation about the Gardenia Janssen Animal Shelter will be given by Director Teresa Stanley Brown, giving an update on the new addition to the shelter. Any donations of dog or cat food or cleaning supplies are welcome on behalf of the Sages and Saints.

La Grange Senior Citizen Game Day

The La Grange Senior Citizen Activity Center Inc. will host game day on Thursday, Sept. 12 from 9-11:30 a.m. at the La Grange Randolph Recreation Center. Bake Sale Benefits Mighty Leopard Band

The Episcopal Church Women’s Club from St. James is sponsoring the Mighty Leopard Band. They will be holding a bake sale in conjunction with St. James’ Men’s Club smoked chicken and sausage sale on Sept. 14. The bake sale will start at 10:30 a.m.

St. James BBQ & Bake Sale

The St. James Episcopal Men’s Club (Holy Smokers) will hold a barbecue and the Episcopal Church Women will hold a bake sale Saturday, Sept. 14, from 10:30 a.m. - 1 p.m. or until sold out, at 156 N. Monroe St across from H-E-B. A half chicken is $6 and sausage link is $7, drive through only. This barbecue is for the benefit of the Presley’s Power organization.

St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church

The annual St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church drive-thru meal and online auction will be held Sunday, Sept. 15 beginning at 10:30 a.m. A fried chicken and sausage dinner is $13 per plate. The church is located on FM 155 between Weimar and La Grange. Smith-McMillan Bells Across America The Smith-McMillan DAR chapter is hosting Bells Across America Ceremony Tuesday, Sept. 17 at 2:45 p.m. which will be held on the Fayette County Courthouse lawn. Everyone is invited to attend. This ceremony will be held all across America at this time and is a celebration of the signing of the United States Constitution. A proclamation will be read and a brief talk bout the constitution, and the bells will ring at 3 p.m.

VFW Post 5254 and Auxiliary to Meet On Tuesday, Sept. 17, Fayette Memorial VFW Post 5254 and Auxiliary of La Grange will meet in the VFW Post Home at the La Grange Fairgrounds. The Auxiliary meets at 5 p.m. Then at 6 p.m., the Post andAuxiliary will gather for the solemn POW-MIA Remembrance Ceremony after which there will be a meal. The Post meeting will follow. Potential members are invited to attend.

Flatonia-Cistern Farm Bureau Dinner The Flatonia-Cistern Farm Bureau stew dinner and quarterly meeting will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 17, at the American Legion Hall in Flatonia. Social hour will start at 6 p.m. and dinner will be served at 6:30 p.m. The guest speaker will be Marcus Zarosky, Fayette County Farm Bureau Agency Manager. A short business meeting will follow the meal. Members are asked to bring a salad or dessert.

Proper Flag Disposal Drop Off Locations The Texas Heroes Museum located at 171 S. Main in La Grange accepts old flags for proper disposal. The drop-off bin is inside the museum which is open 1-4 p.m. Friday, 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday, and 1-4 p.m. Sunday. If leaving flags outside the door when the museum is closed, please have them in a plastic bag or a box so that they are not laying on the ground.

La Grange Chess Club

La Grange Chess Club membership is open to ages 7-adult and is free. The club meets at the Randolph Recreation Center at 653 E. Pearl St. in La Grange every Monday from 5:15-6:15 p.m. Free chess lessons are provided. UIL chess puzzle skills are also taught.
