Special Program at Public Library

The La Grange Community Blood Drive will be held Wednesday, Aug. 28 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the KC Hall located at 190 S. Brown in La Grange. Eat a full meal before donating and bring your photo ID. Walk-ins are welcome.

Henry Mayo, historian and professional surveyor, will present a program, “The Old 300 at 200: The Bicentennial of theAustin Colony Land Grants,” on Thursday, Aug. 29 at 6:30 p.m. in the meeting room of the Fayette Public Library located at 855 S. Jefferson in La Grange. Among other things, learn about the very first land grant surveyed for Austin’s Colony, which was just a few miles from La Grange. Holiday Schedule

The AMEN Food Pantry will be closed Monday, Sept. 2 and open on Tuesday, Sept. 3 for distribution.

There’s more Saint Michael’s Lutheran Church in Winchester will be offering Dave Ramsey’s Financial Peace University during the months of September and October. Financial Peace University is a comprehensive financial education program designed to help individuals and families create a plan for getting out of debt, managing their money, and building wealth. This nine-week course will meet every Wednesday in Sept. and Oct. at Saint Michael’s Park. A meal will be served at 6 p.m. and the class itself will run from 6:30-8 p.m. The cost for the course is $79 but anyone who has previously taken the class can participate again for free. Woven Ministry

Woven Ministry is a non-profit interdenominational ministry for women that offers retreats, Bible studies, and gatherings. Join in their year-long study on the book of Exodus starting the week of Labor Day. The group meets at Crosspoint Community Church, 1010 N. Von Minden St. in La Grange, on Tuesday evening from 6:30-8:15 p.m., Wednesday morning from 8:30-10:30 a.m., or Wednesday lunch from 11:45 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. For more information or to register, visit www.wovenministry.com.

Labor Day Garbage Schedule

La Grange City offices will be closed on Monday, Sept. 2 for the Labor Day Holiday. The week of Sept. 2 through 6 is garbage and recycle week. Waste Management will not have a holiday and will run their normal garbage schedule. If you need additional information, call (979) 968-3127.

LG All Sports Booster Club Meeting

La Grange All Sports Booster Club will hold their September meeting Wednesday, Sept. 4 at 5:30 p.m. at the La Grange High School library.

American Legion Quade-Werchan The next regular meetings of the American Legion Quade-Werchan Post No. 338 and Ladies Auxiliary are scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 5. The meetings will begin at 6:30 p.m. at their facilities located at 1503 N. State Highway 237 in Round Top. The remaining meetings for 2024 are as follows: Oct. 3, this meeting held in conjunction with the Carmine Chamber of Commerce Night Out; Nov. 7, Dec. 5: holiday celebration and dinner. All post and auxiliary members are requested to attend their respective meetings.

Beekeepers Association Meeting

The Fayette County Beekeepers Association (FaycoBeeks) will hold its next meeting on Saturday, Sept. 7 at the Fayette County Agriculture Building in La Grange, located at 255 Svoboda Ln. For anyone interested in learning about beekeeping, there will be a Beekeeping 101 “Winter Preparation Starts Now” session from 4:30-5:30 p.m. Following the session, we will have a potluck dinner, so please bring your favorite entrée, side, or dessert to share. After the potluck, we will hold a business meeting and host our 2024 Honey Harvest Contest. All attendees are welcome to participate; simply bring an 8 oz. jar from your 2024 honey harvest. This event is a wonderful opportunity for new beekeepers to connect with experienced club members who can serve as mentors and advisors. Membership dues for 2024 are $25 per year, whether individual or family. While membership is not required to attend meetings, FaycoBeeks welcomes all attendees and encourages beekeepers and their families to join. FaycoBeeks meets on the first Saturday of every month. Bake Sale Benefits Mighty Leopard Band The Episcopal Church Women’s Club from St. James is sponsoring the Mighty Leopard Band. They will be holding a bake sale in conjunction with St. James’ Men’s Club smoked chicken and sausage sale on Sept. 14. The bake sale will start at 10:30 a.m.

St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church

The annual St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church drive-thru meal and online auction will be held Sunday, Sept. 15 beginning at 10:30 a.m. A fried chicken and sausage dinner is $13 per plate. The church is located on FM 155 between Weimar and La Grange.
