Women Voters

St. Mary Catholic Church in Ellinger will host their 74th Annual Bazaar on Sunday Aug. 25 starting at 10:30 a.m. There will be a drive-thru and dine-in meal at the Ellinger Chamber of Commerce Hall consisting of fried chicken, sausage and trimmings for $15 per plate. There will also be a silent auction and a live auction. There will be a Variety Booth and other fun game activities. Live music will be provided by The Bandits. There will be a prize drawing for a $5,000 gift card first prize, and 43 additional prizes. Tickets for the drawing are available from the St. John’s/ St. Mary’s Parish Office, St. Mary parishioners, Fayetteville Bank or Round Top State Bank. Beginning Aug. 16, an online auction will be open for bidding. Go to www.stmaryellinger. com to register as a bidder and view auction items. 10% of the proceeds will go to the Turtle Wing Foundation.

The South Central Texas League of Women Voters will perform “Press On, My Sisters: The ERA Then and Now,” on Sunday afternoon, Aug. 25, in commemoration of Women’s Equality Day, 2024. The 45-minute “readers’ theater” play will begin at 3 p.m. at Shiner United Methodist Church, 102 W. Church St., Shiner. No admission will be charged, and afterwards light refreshments will be served. LWV is a non-partisan, nonprofit group and all are welcome to attend.

4-H and FFA Jr. Commercial Heifer Sale

The annual 4-H and FFA Jr. Commercial Heifer Sale will be held at the Fayette County Fairgrounds on Saturday, Aug. 24, beginning at 1 p.m. About 130 head of quality bred heifers will be auctioned. Lunch will be served at 11 a.m. Come out and support the youth of Fayette County and buy some nice replacement heifers. Blessing of Backpacks at New Life

Area students are invited to New Life Methodist Church this Sunday, Aug. 25, for their Blessing of the Backpacks for Pre-K through 12th grade and a blessing for area teachers, staff and administrators. The church is located at 1215 N. Von Minden in La Grange and welcomes you to come to their 9 a.m. service (traditional) or the 11:10 a.m. service (contemporary). There will be a time of fellowship and meet and greet at 10 a.m. in the Fellowship Hall. The re-launch of the “After the Flood” kids and youth Sunday morning programs will follow.

Farm Bureau Local Potluck

The Swiss Alp, Ammannsville, Dubina Farm Bureau Local will have a social potluck on Aug. 27 at 6:30 p.m. followed by a short business meeting. All are welcome to join for a fun evening.

Blood Drive in La Grange

The La Grange Community Blood Drive will be held Wednesday, Aug. 28 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the KC Hall located at 190 S. Brown in La Grange. Eat a full meal before donating and bring your photo ID. Walk-ins are welcome.

Special Program at Library

Henry Mayo, historian and professional surveyor, will present a program, “The Old 300 at 200: The Bicentennial of the Austin Colony Land Grants,” on Thursday, Aug. 29 at 6:30 p.m. in the meeting room of the Fayette Public Library located at 855 S. Jefferson in La Grange. Among other things, learn about the very first land grant surveyed for Austin’s Colony, which was just a few miles from La Grange. Fayetteville’s Annual Church Feast St. John The Baptist Catholic Church in Fayetteville will hold their annual picnic on Sunday, Sept. 1 at St. John’s Recreation Hall in Fayetteville. A Mass with Polka music will be held at 10 a.m. with local musicians taking part in the Mass. There will be a barbecue pork and sausage dinner served at 10:30 a.m. Plates to go at the hall and a drive thru line will also be available at 10:30 a.m. Area musicians will provide live music starting at 11 a.m. under the pavilion. Barbecue and sausage burgers will be sold beginning at 1:30 p.m. A country auction including quilts, antiques, coins, etc. will be held at 1:30 p.m. There will be bingo at 2 p.m. in an air conditioned hall and kolaches and other pastries will be available throughout the day. Some attractions include children’s games, silent auction, cake wheel, and ice cold refreshments. Fayetteville is right in the middle of the Central Texas South golden triangle areas and is conveniently located between Austin, Houston, and San Antonio.

Memorial Scholarship Fish Fry

The La Grange Knights of Columbus Chromcik Council No. 2574 Memorial Scholarship fish fry fundraiser will be held Thursday, Sept. 5. The meal will consist of fried fish, cole slaw, pinto beans, buttered potatoes and hush puppies. Serving will be drive-thru only from 4-6 p.m. at the La Grange KC Hall located at 190 S. Woven Ministry

Woven Ministry is a non-profit interdenominational ministry for women that offers retreats, Bible studies, and gatherings. Join in their year-long study on the book of Exodus starting the week of Labor Day. The group meets at Crosspoint Community Church, 1010 N. Books for Bikes Meal Tickets

In support of a reading program at La Grange Elementary School, meal tickets are being sold to raise funds to purchase bikes and helmets for the top girl and boy reader in each grade. The drive-thru dinner will be held Friday, Oct. 4, at the Vail St. bus lanes and serving will be from 4:30-6 p.m. Meals are $13 and will consist of chicken fried steak, corn, green beans, mashed potatoes, banana pudding and a roll for dessert.
