Parkinson’s Group
Due to circumstances beyond control, the advertised topic about food will not be provided at this week’s Fayette County Area Parkinson’s Support Group. In its place, you will hear about legal documents, (POA’s, medical directives) - some of those things we don’t like to hear about but which we need to be informed of for our own benefit. This group is open to PD patients, caregivers, their families, and anyone wanting more information about the subject. The next meeting will take place on March 17 at 10 a.m. at the Randolph Recreation Center.
VFW Meeting
La Grange VFW No. 5254 will meet Tuesday, March 15 at 6 p.m. at the post home. No meal will be served.
Sheriff’s Posse
The Fayette County Sheriff’s Posse will have their monthly meeting Thursday, March 17 at the Posse Arena located 2141 Blankenburg Ln. off FM 609 at 6 p.m.
Open Mic Night
The Fayette County Community Theatre is now hosting Open Mic Nights from 7 to 9 p.m. every third Thursday beginning March 17. Come out to the FCCT Box Office and Studio at 120 S. Washington St. in La Grange on St. Patrick’s Day and share your acting, comedic, vocal, or musical talents.
Porch Concert
Enjoy a night with The Red Barn Crows, Louie Sellers and Craig Dinsmore at the Round Top Library Annex Lawn on Thursday, March 17 from 6 until 7:30 p.m. Bring your own chair/blanket, snacks, drinks etc. Some pretzels and Guinness will be served. Remember to wear green. Come and enjoy a music fest under the stars. The Round Top Family Library is located at 206 W. Mill St. in Round Top. This is a free program.
Bluebonnet Opry
Friends of the Bluebonnet Opry will meet at the Silver Wings Ballroom located at 4100 Hwy. 105 in Brenham on March 17. Doors open at 5:30 and show starts at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $8 with door prizes. The grill is open for great tasting food. For more information, call (979) 451-0816.
FCRW Monthly Meeting
The Fayette County Republican Women will hold their monthly meeting on Thursday, March 17 at Sealand Restaurant located at 2359 W. State Hwy. 71 in La Grange. A speaker from the Texas State Rifle Association will discuss topics such as the new constitutional carry law issues, both positive and negative; gun owner responsibilities and liabilities; and any potential laws or initiatives pertaining to guns/ammo etc. Social time starts at 6 p.m. Business meeting will start at 6:30 p.m. Arrive early to order dinner (Dutch treat). Deer Avoidance Course
A free course on deer avoidance will be taught Thursday, March 17 from 2-3:30 p.m. at 2501 Bryant Rd. in Schulenburg. The course will teach how to keep deer out of the landscape. This class has worked for homes where 20-50 deer roam the neighborhood. For more information, contact David E. Will at (830) 629-9876.
Texas Food Truck
Central Texas Food Bank Truck will be at the Waldeck Lutheran Church located at the junction FM-1291 and FM-2145 on Friday, March 18 from 10 until 11 a.m. It will be drive-thru only and all clients are to remain in their vehicles. Someone will be there to direct traffic. Clients are advised to make room inside their car trunks and truck beds. Food boxes will be pre-packaged and placed into each vehicle by volunteers. Health safety guidelines require volunteers to wear facemasks and to social distance. Clients are urged to wear facemasks while in the drive-thru. The mobile truck comes to Waldeck on the third Friday of each month. The next dates are April 15, May 20, June 17, July 15, and Aug. 19.
Gardenia E. Janssen Adoption Event
The Gardenia E. Janssen Animal Shelter is having an adoption event and bake sale Saturday, March 19 from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. The shelter is looking for baked goods for this event. Pet adoptions will be $50. The shelter is located at 240 Svoboda Ln. in La Grange. For more information, visit JanssenAnimalShelter.org.
FC Democratic County Convention
Voters who cast their ballots in the Fayette County Democratic Primary election are invited to attend the county convention on Saturday, March 19 at 10 a.m. The convention will be located at the La Grange City Hall located at 155 E. Colorado St. Delegates representing Fayette County to the July 14-16 State Democratic Party Convention in Dallas are elected at this local convention.
Carmine Hall Dance
Carmine Hall will host a dance featuring the Koka Kola Cowboyz on Saturday, March 19. Doors will open at 6 p.m. and dance is from 7 until 11 p.m. Advance tickets are $15 and tickets at the door will be $20. There will be a Raise the Roof Auction during intermission. The band is underwitten by Carmine Chamber of Commerce and the Koka Kola Cowboyz.
Rosary Crusade in Fayetteville
St. Anne Society No. 10 KJZT of Fayetteville is sponsoring the 2022 Public Square Rosary Crusade in the support of traditional marriage. Everyone is invited to join in prayer for our nation at noon on Saturday, March 19 at the gazebo on the Fayetteville square. You are welcome to bring lawn chairs. FCCT Auditions
The Fayette County Community Theatre will host auditions for The Play That Goes Wrong on Sunday, March 20 from 3-5 p.m. and Monday, March 21 from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at the Sanford Schmid Amphitheater on the grounds of the Texas Czech Heritage and Cultural Center adjacent to the Fayette County Fairgrounds. No preparation needed, auditions will be cold readings.
La Grange Chamber Bingo
The La Grange Area Chamber of Commerce will host networking bingo at Frisch Auf! Valley Country Club located at 575 Country Club Drive on Wednesday, March 23 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.
John Wick Family Reunion
The 26th John Wick family reunion will be held at the St. Mary Parish Hall in High Hill on Sunday, April 3, with registration starting at 10 a.m. A catered meal of fried chicken and sausage will be served at noon for $10 a plate for 13 years and up; children 12 and under eat free. Bring a dessert to share. Tea and coffee will be served with the meal. A silent auction, guessing games, a trivia contest, and door prizes will be featured events. A Mass is being offered for the living and deceased members of the John Wick family on Saturday, April 2, at 6:30 p.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church in High Hill. LG Bluebonnet Lions Club Scholarships
The La Grange Bluebonnet Lions Club is now taking applications for 2022 Scholarships. Students eligible are: 2022 La Grange High School graduating seniors that will be attending a college or trade school, and former LGISD graduates currently enrolled in a college or trade school. Applications for graduating seniors are available online at www.lgisd.net. Current college/trade school students can find the application at La Grange Bluebonnet Lions Club e-clubhouse.
