Brunch & Movie
The Casino Hall in La Grange will host a “Brunch and a Movie” event Aug. 2. The movie will be “The First Wives Club” and doors will open at 10 a.m. Tickets are $20 and include the meal and the movie. Band Bake Sale
The Mighty Leopard Band is “Baking A Difference.” Come support the La Grange High School Band and Booster Club’s bake sale Saturday, Aug. 2 at the Farmer’s Market on the square in La Grange from 8 a.m. - 12 p.m. Proceeds from this free will donation sale will go towards the purchase of new Color Guard uniforms. As always, the MLB and Booster Club appreciates your support.
Adult Tech Training
Join us for Adult Technology Training at the Fayette Public Library in La Grange on Saturday, Aug. 2, from 10 a.m. to noon. All computer questions are welcome. No one is born knowing this stuff. Fayette County Beekeepers Association
The Fayette County Beekeepers Association (FaycoBeeks) will hold its next meeting on Saturday, Aug. 2 at the Fayette County Agriculture Building in La Grange (255 Svoboda Ln). The evening begins with Beekeeping 101 from 4:30-5:30 p.m. this session is perfect for beginners or anyone curious about getting started with bees. At 5:30 p.m. enjoy a potluck dinner, bring a favorite entrée, side, or dessert to share. Following dinner, regular business meeting will follow, then guest speaker: Freddie Benjamin, an Advanced Beekeeper in the Texas Master Beekeeper Program, will present on Honey Bee Pests and Diseases, offering valuable insights into the most common threats to hive health. Learn how to recognize early signs of pests and infections and explore effective, practical management strategies to keep your colonies thriving. Annual membership is just $25 per individual or family, but guests are always welcome. FaycoBeeks meets on the first Saturday of each month (except in July). Lions Sealy Dance Club
The Lions Sealy Dance Club is having a dance on Saturday, Aug. 2, at the Sealy American Legion Hall located at 1630 Meyer St. The band, Texas Sound Check, will be providing live music from 7:30 to 11 p.m. The public is always welcome.
Homeschool Co-op Meeting
Greater Vision Team School is a Christian homeschool co-op that offers Science, History, Geography, Writing, P.E. and Electives to children ages newborn to 8th grade, and Science for 9th-10th grade. The co-op meets every Tuesday at Camp Lutherhill in La Grange for 12 weeks each Fall and Spring semester. Families can join for the academic classes in the morning, the elective classes in the afternoon, or both. Carmine Chamber Casino Night
The Carmine Chamber of Commerce will host Casino Night 007” on Saturday, Aug. 9 at the Carmine Hall, 300 N. Hauptstrasse, beginning at 6 p.m. A chicken-fried steak meal by Gary Goebel will be served. Enjoy fun games for prizes. A table sponsorship is $500 and includes eight meals, beverages, wine, promotion at event, and playing chips. Individual tickets are $65. FCCT Fall Auditions
Calling all adult actors, crew members, techies, and other volunteers: Fayette County Community Theatre is holding auditions for its November production of “Calendar Girls” by Tim Firth. Daughters of the American Revolution The Smithville Chapter of the American Revolution (DAR) will offer its annual genealogy seminar by noted genealogist Ella Sheffield and Elizabeth Pierce on Saturday, Aug. 16 from 9 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. The one-day event will offer guidance for those working on family trees and historical genealogical research. The seminar costs $40, lunch, snacks and handouts are included. The seminar takes place in Smithville in the First National Bank community room at 312 Main Street. Kids Garden Class
The Round Top Family Library will host a free Junior Master Gardener Kids Garden Class with teaching team Suzanne Ellis, Terri Russell and Lou Ann Phillips for fourth and fifth grades. Kids will learn the art and science of gardening. This is a four-week workshop held once a week October-November on Wednesdays from 4-5:15 p.m. Registration is required.
