Memorial Day Buddy Poppies
The Memorial Day Buddy Poppy drive in the La Grange area by the VFW Auxiliary No. 5254 will be held Friday and Saturday, May 22 and 23. Your donations will benefit Veterans assistance programs. Wear your Poppy with pride and remember the sacrifices service members have made for our freedom.

There’s more The 19thAnnual Memorial Day Ceremony at Koenig-Belvill Funeral Home & Cremations, 208 W. Pearl St., La Grange, will be held Monday, May 25. The ceremony will begin at 10 a.m. A barbeque lunch will be served. The Marine Corps League No. 1028, Shelby American Legion No. 602, La Grange VFW Post No. 5254, American Legion Post 102-338-602, Vietnam Veterans of America No. 870 and La Grange-Giddings-Fayetteville Bishop Odin Assembly No. 1095 will be present to do the presentation of the flag ceremony. Richard Kean, professional bagpiper, will be playing Taps. This ceremony is to remember and honor our courageous troops who sacrificed their lives for our freedoms.
Hermann Sons Life Lodge
The Round Top-Shelby Hermann Sons Life Lodge will meet on Tuesday, May 26 at their new meeting place, the Round Top Rifle Association Hall at 710 FM 1457, Round Top. A social time will begin at 6 p.m., meeting at 6:30 p.m. with a meal following. Members are invited to bring sandwiches, sides or desserts to share. Note the new meeting date going forward is the fourth Tuesday of the month with the exception of the month of December, when we will continue to meet on the second Sunday of December for the annual Christmas party. The Lodge will be hosting a Country Store at the Shelby VFD Annual Fireman’s Fundraiser at Harmonie Hall in Shelby on Sunday, May 24. The Lodge welcomes donations of items for the store. All proceeds will be donated to the fire department and the Hermann Sons Life organization will match a portion of those proceeds. For more information, call Lila Garlin at (281) 705-4647.
La Grange Senior Citizen Game Day
The La Grange Senior Citizen Activity Center Inc. will host game day on Thursday, May 28, from 9 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. at the City of La Grange Randolph Recreation Center. Game Day will be held the second and fourth Thursday of each month. For more information, contact Liz Tannler at (281) 543-1976.
Etiquette Course in June
An etiquette course will be offered June 1-3 evenings at Frisch Auf! Valley Country Club. This is a valuable skills training for graduating Fayette County 10th, 11th, and 12th graders. Cernoch Family Reunion
Descendants of Jon and Maria Cernoch will have their 37th biennial family reunion on Saturday, June 6 at the Dubina KJT Hall. Registration begins at 11 a.m. with lunch around noon. Each family is asked to bring covered dish foods to share. Eating utensils and drinks will be furnished. Meeting and activities to follow lunch. Summer Concert at Faison House Faison Preservation Society invites you to join them for their annual Summer Concert on June 7 from 2-3 p.m. Enjoy a Sunday afternoon of beautiful classical piano music performed by two students attending the Round Top Festival Hill Institute. They will be playing the Faison family Knabe Square Grand Piano at Historic N. W. Faison House, 822 S. Jefferson St., La Grange. Tickets can be purchased at www.faisonhouse.org/concert.
Cost is $30 per person, benefitting musical appreciation and historic preservation.
Chicken Fried Chicken Dinner
The Fayette County Community Theatre will host a drivethru dinner on Thursday, June 11 from 4-6 p.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 110 W. Walnut in La Grange. Meal consists of chicken fried chicken, mashed potatoes, green beans, broccoli salad and cobbler. Tickets are $15 and are available from any board member or at The Fayette County Record office.
