Rec. Center Launches Plan for Friday Camps When LGISD Classes are Out

La Grange’s Randolph Recreation Center will begin offering a Friday day camp. The camp will provide activities for La Grange ISD students on the Fridays when school is closed.

La Grange ISD launched a hybrid school schedule last year that gave students and staff Fridays off during the months of October, November, December, March, April and May. Last year, the school offered child care on those Fridays. The school cut the child care program this year.

At Monday’s City Council meeting, La Grange Recreation Director Curtis Bradbury asked Council’s permission to start a Friday program at the Rec Center. Council voted unanimously to approve the new program. The day camp will offer supervised activities for young people on Fridays when school is out.

Bradbury said about 40 students utilized the school’s Friday program last year. He said the Rec Center will plan for the same number of students.

The cost will be $40 per week for one student and $35 per week for any additional household members. Youth may be dropped off from 7:308 a.m. and must be picked up by 5:30 p.m. Parents or guardians will be responsible for providing their children with a sack lunch, drink and snacks.

Activities will include playground time, crafts, open gym, board games and exercises.

Bradbury presented the Council with a handbook detailing policies for emergencies, pick-up and drop-off, discipline, health and safety, program fees and parental requirements.

Parents can sign up for the day camp by visiting the Randolph Recreation Center, which is located at 653 E. Pearl St. Registration will open next Tuesday, Sept. 1, from 5 to 6:30 p.m. in the B Building. If there are spots available after that date, parents can visit the Rec Center to pick up a registration packet.
