Rare Philip Glass Composition Featured in Musical Meditations March 5 in Round Top

Saint Cecilia’s Episcopal Church in Round Top, a creative community that celebrates the arts as pathways to the Divine, presents a special program of Music and Meditations on Ash Wednesday, March 5, at 5:45 p.m. in the historic Haw Creek Chapel in Henkel Square This special service features a performance by the critically- acclaimed Axiom String Quartet. The service includes Four Meditations on Philip Glass’ stunning String Quartet No. 3, “Mishima.” Between movements priest and author William “Father Bill” Miller will share four contemplative meditations in anticipation of the sacred season of Lent: Giving Up (Simplicity), Taking On (Practice), Looking In (Penitence), and Longing For (Desire).

This unique service will be the first time the Glass musical masterpiece has been featured in a religious service with accompanying meditations. The Quartet will also share several traditional hymns arranged for String Quartet including How Deep the Father’s Love For Us, Dear Lord and Father, Take My Life And Let It Be, and The Glory Of These Forty Days. The Ash Wednesday Service also includes the poignant Litany of Penitence, The Imposition of Ashes, and the reading of Jan Richardson’s seasonal poem Blessing the Dust.
