Pursuit Ends Near Schulenburg

The driver of a stolen vehicle led several law enforcement agencies on pursuit that ended near Schulenburg last Thursday evening.

The incident began in Corpus Christi on April 17. Around 3:35 p.m. that day, Corpus Christi Police Officers responded to a report of a 70-year-old woman who was robbed at gunpoint in a parking lot. According to a report from the Guadalupe County Sheriff’s Office, the assailant stole several of the woman’s belongings, including her vehicle. The victim was uninjured, the report said.

Later that day, Guadalupe County Sheriff’s Deputies located the vehicle on Interstate 10 in Guadalupe County. Deputies attempted to stop the vehicle, but the suspect fled from the stop in the stolen vehicle.

A pursuit ensued to the east. Fayette County Sheriff’s Deputies Cody Williams, Jose Mosqueda, and Ty Roggenkamp joined in the pursuit as it headed into Fayette County. The Schulenburg Police Department and Flatonia Police Department joined in the pursuit as well.

Officers ultimately stopped the vehicle and apprehended the suspect on Hwy. 90 west of Schulenburg.

The Guadalupe County Sheriff’s Office identified the suspect as 21-year-old Jose Garza. He was booked into the Guadalupe County Jail and charged with Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle and Evading Arrest. Garza will also face one count of Robbery in Nueces County.
