Pursuit Ends Near County Line

Fayette County Sheriff’s Deputies assisted with a manhunt just across the county line in Lavaca County on Tuesday, May 6.

According to a report from the Lavaca County Sheriff’s Office, deputies there tried intercepting a stolen pickup out of Brazoria County between Shiner and Moulton Tuesday afternoon. The vehicle refused to stop. A pursuit ensued along the backroads in northern Lavaca County.

The truck eventually ran through multiple barbed wire fences before coming to a stop in a pasture, around the area of Highway 77 and CR 240 in Lavaca County.

A Lavaca County deputy pursued two Hispanic males running on foot. The deputy was joined by a Shiner Police officer. The suspects evaded the officers and ran into thick brush. A kennel and horse team from Texas Department of Criminal Justice arrived to assist with the search. State Troopers, the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office, Moulton Police, and Texas Game Wardens joined in as well. In addition, Lavaca County EMS deployed an unmanned aircraft to assist in the search, the report said.

Hours later a rainstorm moved in and authorities suspended the search. The Lavaca County Sheriff’s Office asked residents in the area to be on the lookout for suspicious activity.

“Please ensure to lock your doors to your homes and vehicles,” the report said. “Intelligence received leads law enforcement to believe these two Hispanic males were possibly scouting for an additional vehicle to steal.”
