Possible ‘Vampiric Chupacabra’ in Dubina to Be Featured On Discovery Channel Show Next Week
The mysterious creature that appeared on a game camera in Dubina last August will be featured on Discovery Channel’s Expedition X next Wednesday.
Michael “Dumas” Demel of Schulenburg first reported the sighting to the Record last August. We published a photo of it in the Aug. 27, 2024 issue of the Record.
The creature walked in front of a game camera at the Demel farm in Dubina. At the time, the Record showed the photo to Texas Parks and Wildlife Biologist Laura Sherrod, who said it looked too small to be a white-tailed deer fawn, and it didn’t appear to have any spots. She speculated that it could have been a blackbuck fawn. But Demel said he knew of no one in the area who raised exotic deer.
After posting the photo to social media, some folks thought it might be the legendary chupacabra.
The story went viral, and a producer from Expedition X reached out to Demel last November. The film crew visited the Demel place back in January. Their visit will be part of Episode 605 titled “Texas Chupacabra.”
A synopsis from the show schedule says the following: “Heather and Phil sniff out the trail of a vampiric Chupacabra said to be terrorizing eastern Texas. Joined by a new hightech hound, can their robot companion help them catch this Badlands bloodsucker in the act?”
The show is scheduled to air on Discovery Channel at 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 1.
