Police Recover Stolen Vehicle and Arrest Driver After Foot Pursuit

Schulenburg Police arrested a Houston man driving a stolen vehicle following a foot pursuit on Christmas Eve.

According to a report from the Schulenburg Police Department, around 3:15 p.m. on Dec. 24, officers were notified about a stolen vehicle heading west on Interstate 10 toward Schulenburg.

Officer Byron Powe and Sgt. Tobey McFadden responded. Around 3:58 p.m., the officers spotted the vehicle, a white Chevy van, about two miles east of Schulenburg. The officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop. The driver in the Chevy van got out of the vehicle and fled on foot south across the eastbound lanes of traffic.

The officers pursued the suspect on foot and caught him on Huser Blvd. near the Kemlon manufacturing plant. Officers confirmed that the vehicle was stolen out of Harris County. They placed the suspect, Charlie Smith Jr., 50 of Houston, under arrest for unauthorized use of a vehicle and evading arrest or detention. Smith was transported to the Dan R. Beck Justice Center in La Grange for booking.

Schulenburg police thanked the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office for assisting in the arrest.
