Pin Oak Cemetery Cleanup Held

The historic Pin Oak Cemetry recently held their semiannual clean up with 13 people coming out to help preserve the past for the future. After all the mowing, edging, and general cleaning they held their business meeting and elected new officers. The new officers will help manage and preserve the Pin Oak Cemetery for the future. It was really nice to have had some younger generations come out and help in the preservation of the past.
Out and About
Debra and John Schwartzenburg enjoyed having their great nieces Juliana and Jocelyn Guerrero and their parents Victoria and Jason Guerrero come in from Houston for a visit. Juliana and Jocelyn got to ride around the family property with their grandmother Julia Speed on the UTV. This is family property that has been owned continuously by the Speed family since 1859, so it was a little bit of a history lesson and a link to their past for the girls.
On a recent trip to Colorado Ron and Pam Knotts got a chance to go to the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo near Colorado Springs. Located high in the hills, the animal enclosures are up close and personal, including a two-story deck where everyone can hand feed the giraffes. Quite a thrill. Ron and Pam spent the afternoon following the snack lady as she moved around the zoo delivering treats to the animals. They were just feet away when the hippos ate and then took a swim. The ape house was a real treat with lots of different areas housing gorillas and orangutans. They watched a big lazy gorilla that sat in his hammock and pulled goodies down from the ceiling. It is definitely one of the best zoos in the country.
James and I took off for San Antonio and the Shooting Clay Nationals to enjoy a visit with the California cousins, Patty and John Keaton. John is competing and while he was out on the field Patty and I enjoyed some girl fun of quilt shops and junk stores.
Aron Missal of Bunda, Germany, was part of my host home when I went to Germany for Baseball Camp in 2023 and he recently came with his church’s mission team to go to the valley with Flatonia Baptist Church’s team to build homes. And on Sunday Aron got a chance to come out to our home and see where we live in Muldoon. He had a blast getting to experience country life in Muldoon.
Among those traveling to the valley to build homes were some of Muldoon’s own, including Penny McFarlin and Martin Cherry Jr. They spent a week building on three different homes for those in need.
Open House
Billy and Nancie Blair held an Open House to show off their hard work on their home. Coming in for the fun was Nancie’s sister Lu Ginapp and her mom Elaine Lang all the way from Fort Worth. Also in was Billie and Nancie’s daughter Teresa Holland and granddaughter Zoe Holland of Pasadena, and great nephew Jack Riddell came in from San Marcos. Local family also came out, Heather Tillerson and grandson Kelley Schick. Russell Dietrick and son Theo also came out to enjoy the day and a great afternoon cookout of burgers and such. Everyone enjoyed visiting and catching up along with admiring all of Nancie and Billie’s hard work of fixing up their home.
Church News
The Stray Gathering Cowboy Church has had an active outreach to the hurricane victims. They have members who are in place in North Carolina helping out.
SG2C pastor Butch has been asked and has accepted the postiton as Chaplain for the Muldoon Volunteer Fire Department. SG2C continues to grow and support the Muldoon community in so many ways. If you would like to check them out drop in on them any Sunday Morning. Coffee, doughnuts and fellowship starts at 9:30 a.m. with Worship services beginning at 10 a.m. This is a fast growing, God-centered church and they are reaching out and helping their Muldoon neighbors all the time.
Illness
There are a number in the community who are not doing too great. The flu and seasonal allergies are taking their tolls on several individuals. Be sure and check on your neighbors to make sure they are doing alright and don’t need some help. We all have to pull together and take care of each other. That’s what small communities are supposed to do.
Happenings
Christmas is fast approaching and there are plans for Christmas in Muldoon on Dec. 14. So, mark your calendars to attend.
Also in the works is a chili cook off at the Muldoon Community Park as well as the fire department fundraiser in conjunction with the 4th of July celebration parade.
