Out-of-Town Teens Arrested for Break-Ins in Flatonia

Flatonia Police arrested two out-of-town teenagers last week for a pair of recent burglaries.

Police Chief Lee Dick reported that a break-in occurred at the Citgo North Travel Center on Thursday, June 19, around 2:38 p.m. Then last Tuesday, June 24, the burglars tried breaking into the Dollar General store in Flatonia around 1:34 a.m.. Dick said they turned off the power in an attempt to disarm the building’s security system. However, they were unable to get inside. Dick said the burglars then went to the Wildcat Express Valero Station, where they broke in and took an entire display case. Dick said the burglars took pocket knives and a large number of nicotine vapes from both stores.

Police identified the suspects and located them later in the day on Tuesday, June 24. Officers recovered the stolen property at that time. Dick said the two suspects, aged 15 and 17, were visiting Flatonia from out of the county when the break-ins occurred. He said investigators believe the two teens intended to sell the nicotine vapes.

Both face charges including three counts of burglary of a building and theft of property valued between $2,500 and $30,000. The 15-year-old was taken to a youth detention center. The 17-year-old was arrested and booked into the Fayette County Jail.
