Otto Headed to Medical School

Erica Otto of Schulenburg graduated Summa Cum Laude from Southwestern University in Georgetown on May 10, 2025.

Erica’s Bachelor of Science degree is in Kinesiology with a minor in Biology. While at Southwestern, she was a member of the NCAA Women’s Volleyball and Softball teams, Tri Delta Sorority, Alpha Chi National College Honor Society, Phi Beta Kappa, Student Foundation, and Catholic Student Association. She also earned Dean’s List Honors, was named to the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Student-Athlete Academic Honor Roll every semester, Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Honorable Mention Outfielder 2022-2025, Easton/National Fastpitch Coaches Association All-American Softball Scholar 2022-2025, and College Sports Communicators Academic All-District 2023-2025. internship at Houston Methodist Willowbrook Hospital in the summer of 2024. Erica received the Jimmy C. Smith Outstanding Research in Kinesiology Award and Fay Vincent Sr. Sportsmanship Award as a senior student-athlete. She had the privilege of giving the student commencement address at her graduation as well as giving a speech at her baccalaureate. Erica will matriculate into the Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine at the University of North Texas Health Science Center in Fort Worth this fall to pursue her Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (D.O.) degree.

Otto is a 2021 Salutatorian graduate of Schulenburg High School. She is the daughter of Keith and Stacy Otto of Schulenburg, and granddaughter of Harvey and Gloria Oeding of La Grange, the late Nolan L. Bruns Jr. of Schulenburg, Barbara Otto of Shiner, and the late Kenneth R. Otto of Shiner.
