Nine LG Vehicles Broken Into Tuesday Morning

Burglars broke into nine vehicles in La Grange early Tuesday morning. They got away with numerous portable electronics, computers and other valuables.

La Grange Police Chief David Gilbreath said the first call came in around 5:40 a.m. Most of the vehicles were parked outside residences in the vicinity of Miller St. and Eblin St. Gilbreath said the burglars got into the vehicles by breaking out the windows.

“Everybody was sleeping when it happened,” Gilbreath said.

One of the burglarized vehicles belonged to the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office. It was issued to a deputy to lives in the neighborhood. The burglars took a bag containing pistol and rifle magazines along with ammunition. There were firearms inside the Sheriff’s vehicle, but they were secured in a gun lock. The burglars were not able to get to them.

Gilbreath said he believes the suspects were mainly looking for firearms, but none were taken out of any of the vehicles. In some of the vehicles, valuable items were left behind, he said.

Surveillance cameras at one of the residences captured video of three men walking down the street around the time of the break-ins. The suspects remain at large. If anyone else in the area has surveillance video or saw anything suspicious, please contact the Police Department by calling (979) 968-5806. Officers Mitchell Maxwell and Troy Stevens are investigating the case.
