MLLC Women Host Successful Salad Supper Benefiting AMEN
The annual Salad Supper and program, sponsored by the Women of the ELCA of Martin Luther Lutheran Church, Carmine, was held on Wednesday, June 3, with thirty-five people enjoying the delightful evening of fellowship, food, and fun. The theme for the program was Feeding the Multitude, based on the theme verse, Matthew 14:19. The tables were decorated with baskets filled with food items that were later given to A.M.E.N in La Grange and various potted flowers. The food items in the baskets were given by church members in conjunction with our AMEN ingathering for May. Guests also were generous in bringing food items that were given to the AMEN pantry.
Leonita Sanders welcomed all in attendance, followed by the WELCA purpose statement and the singing of the table prayer. A delicious array of salads and desserts was enjoyed by the guests. The hymn, Praise and Thanksgiving, with Nancy Eilers as the pianist for the evening, opened the program. The inspirational and informational program was given by Susan Schultz, Vice President of A.M.E.N along with Mary Lou McElroy, both who are fulltime volunteers at the food pantry in La Grange. Their work is a blessing to so many families in Fayette County in keeping food on the tables for those in need. It was a pleasure to hear of their experiences in their volunteer work and how their own lives are impacted. An interesting fact was how many gardeners in Fayette County share with AMEN which gives families fresh vegetables as well. Cathy Gau and Kathy Schatte gave a presentation on Taco Soup for AMEN. This one meal recipe for the soup along with a twogallon plastic Ziplock bag were available. One may buy the ingredients for the soup, place them in the plastic bag, and give to the food pantry.
An Offering was taken for AMEN and the generous amount of $1,250 was given by those attending. Blest Be the Tie That Binds was sung as the closing hymn. Pastor John David Nedbalek of Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Round Top, gave the closing prayer and benediction.
Door prizes of the various potted flowers were won by Doris Gebhard, Vickie Schroeder, Pearlie Wagner, Mary Rauch, Margaret Bernshausen, Ruby McCullough, Kathy Schatte, Melissa Nedbalek, Yvonne Jackson, and Nancy Eilers.
The ingathering of the food items given by members of MLLC and the guests attending were taken to AMEN and weighed 231 pounds. God’s blessings to all for your generosity in helping families.
Blood Drive
The Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center will have a blood drive in the Fellowship Hall at Martin Luther Lutheran Church in Carmine on June 28 from 9:30 a.m. - 2 p.m. It is sponsored in conjunction with Bethlehem Lutheran Church of Round Top. Please consider giving the Gift of Life.
Casino Night
The Carmine Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring its annual Casino Night on Saturday, Aug. 8 at the Carmine Hall beginning at 6 p.m. The theme will be “Stars & Stripes,” celebrating 250 years of America. Something new this year will be slot machines. A chicken-fried steak meal by Gary Goebel will be served beginning at 7 p.m.
A table for eight is $600 and includes eight meals, wine and beverages, starting chips, and promotion at the event. Individual tickets are $75 each. For more information, please contact Courtney at (512) 983-1115 or Marlene at (979) 451-1507.
RT-C School News
The RT-C administrative offices will be open May 28 through Aug. 3 from 8 a.m.4 p.m. Monday - Thursday. Offices will be closed for the Fourth of July holiday from June 29-July 5.
MLLC News
Senior Citizens meet on Wednesday from 8:30 - 11:30 a.m. in the Mission & Ministry Building.
AA meets Saturday at 8:30 a.m.
Sunday School meets Sunday at 9 a.m.
Worship with Holy Communion, observing the Fifth Sunday after Pentecost is Sunday at 10 a.m. The Rev. Ken Weiss will serve as the guest pastor.
The Blood Drive is Sunday from 9:30 a.m. - 2 p.m.
Recycling Center
Beginning this week, on June 18, there will be new hours for the recycling collection trailers at the Carmine Hall. Personnel will be there in the morning from 7:30 a.m.-12 noon. It will still be on Thursdays.
Accepted are clean No. 1 and 2 plastic bottles and jugs. Please note that the clean milk cartons should be kept separate from the other No. 2 plastics. Also, numbers 3, 4, 5, 6, and 7 plastics and plastic bags are not accepted.
Dry newspapers, telephone books, magazines, cardboard, paper, junk mail, all colors glass, steel food cans and aluminum cans may also be brought. Attendants are available to help unload.
Visitors’ Center
The Carmine Chamber of Commerce Visitors’ Center at the restored Train Depot and Museum is open on the second Friday and Saturday of the month from 10 a.m. 2 p.m. It is located at 248 E Sylvan, Carmine, TX 78932, which is on the south side of Highway 290.
