Man Flees After Shooting
The Fayette County Sheriff’s Office arrested one man and they’re searching for another after a shooting near Fayetteville on Tuesday, Sept. 24.
The Sheriff’s Office received a call around 4:30 p.m. reporting gunshots off Halamicek Loop in the Roznov area. Deputies located a man wounded in the arm by birdshot from a shotgun. Another man was seen running into the woods nearby.
The Sheriff’s Office called for assistance from the Department of Public Safety and the Austin County Regional Special Response Team as well as air support units. They set up a perimeter around the area and began searching for the man. The search was called off around sundown after rain started falling.
In a statement Tuesday night, the Sheriff’s Office said they “do not believe any threat of danger exists to the community.” Several officers were assigned to patrol the area overnight. But the suspect remained at large as of Wednesday afternoon.
Lt. David Beyer of the Sheriff’s Office said Fayette County EMS evaluated the man who was shot at the scene, but he declined hospital treatment. Deputies then interviewed him at the Sheriff’s Office. He was later arrested for illegal possession of body armor by a felon.
The suspect who fled into the woods was described as a white male in his late 30s wearing blue jean shorts and no shirt. Beyer said investigators were still trying to determine the nature of the dispute that led to the gunshots. He said the investigation remains open. If anyone knows the whereabouts of the suspect who fled, please call the Sheriff’s Office at (979) 968-3155.
