Magnolia Man Dead After Attempting to Steal Tractor Near Cat Spring Sept. 16
The Austin County Sheriff’s Office (ACSO) says a man trying to steal a tractor was run over and killed by the machine near Cat Spring on Monday, Sept. 16.
Three other individuals who allegedly participated in the theft were arrested last week. They face murder charges in connection with the death.
According toACSO, medics and deputies responded to a call in the early morning hours of Sept. 16 reporting a 20-year-old man who was unconscious and not breathing near the 15000 block of FM 1094. Upon arrival, first responders found the subject receiving CPR from a relative.
“Deputies took over the CPR but it was quickly terminated because the man was already deceased,” ACSO reported in a press release the next day. “Initially, it appears the man had been crushed or run over by some type of vehicle.”
Last Thursday, Sept. 26, ACSO identified the deceased as Chase Dorman of Magnolia.
“After a thorough investigation, the ACSO Criminal Investigations Division (CID) learned Dorman was attempting to steal a tractor when he was run over by the same tractor,” ACSO said in a statement last Thursday. “According to witnesses, immediately after stealing the tractor, it was stopped to adjust the gears/ transmission at which time the tractor ran over Dorman.”
The press release went on to say investigators identified three other individuals who allegedly participated in the tractor theft: Michael Frank Ford, 18 of Magnolia; William Bradley Laroche, 17 of Magnolia; and Curtis Earl Mosley Jr., 25 of Austin County.
“On Sept. 24, arrest warrants were issued for Ford, Laroche and Mosley for Felony Murder 1st Degree,” the press release said. “With the assistance of the Montgomery County Constable Pct. 5, Ford and Laroche were arrested in the early morning hours of Sept. 25. Both will be transferred to Austin County to appear before the court. Mosley was taken into custody by the US Marshal’s Gulf Coast Violent Offenders Task Force.”
The Austin County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division led the investigation with assistance from the Colorado County Sheriff’s Office, Montgomery County Constable Pct. 5, the Austin County District Attorney, and the US Marshals Service violent offender task force.
