Lots of Personnel Changes at LGISD
The change to a 4-day hybrid schedule wasn’t the only big thing discussed at Monday’s La Grange School Board meeting. Here are some more items: Personnel
New hires and/or changes of job assignment include: Taylor Zapalac – elementary school teacher (2024-25); Heath Golan – high school English teacher (2025-26); Brooke Kocian – elementary school teacher (2025-26); Hatti Moore – transfer from elementary special education teacher/coach to elementary physical education/coach; DelLani Cavaness – middle school/high school food service worker; Rebecca Hernandez – elementary school educational aide/after school care counselor; Adolfo Maya – elementary school educational aide; Danis McEachern – middle school/high school food service worker; Rielynn Medina – after school care counselor; Erin Oppermann – elementary school educational aide/after school care counselor; Lauren Rusek – after school care counselor; Jennifer Villanueva – transfer from middle school/high school food service worker to middle school/high school food service manager in training.
Resignations and or terminations include: Jill Ahrens – middle school special education (deceased); Eric Daniels – assistant band director/middle school band; Heath Golan – high school English teacher/ coach; Chelsea Ordiway – elementary teacher; Donna Williamson – elementary special education teacher; Louchin Chi – high school educational aide; Freddy Dobbins – bus operator; Juan Torrez – child nutrition supervisor.
Contracts were renewed for all teacher and professional staff for the 2025-26 school year.
Administrative Reports
Superintendent Andy McHazlett reported that the current enrollment is 1,845 students, with 955 at the elementary campus, 308 at the middle school campus, and 582 at the high school campus. The district attendance rate is 94.92%.
Assistant Superintendent Stacy Eilers gave accolades to the high school one act play students and staff as they are advancing to bi-district competition which will take place this Saturday at Berkshire Royal. Their play is called “These Shining Lights.” She told the board that they did an awesome job at the district competition. They received the following awards: allstar crew-Jeremiah Linhart and all-star cast-Riley Lowe, Molly Hudson and Deacon Wick. There are many other academic UIL events taking place this week.
Director of Operations and School Safety Sharon Muzny told the board that TEA came in and conducted a DVA (district Vulnerability Assessment) at the beginning of the month. “We went to every campus. We checked every single door on every single campus. They were all locked. But in good condition,” she said.
