A Look Inside Fayette County EMS’s Newest Ambulance

Fayette County EMS took delivery of its newest ambulance last week. This ambulance was paid in-part through a generous donation from Fayette County citizen Steve Hillhouse. At left, EMS Director Josh Vandever shows off the ambulance’s battery power unit. Vandever explained that ambulances must stay connected to power at all times because certain drugs have to be stored under refrigeration. All of the department’s older ambulances relied on generator powered by the truck engine. This new battery system, Vandever said, allows the engine to shut off, saving hours of idle time and possibly $1,500 a month in fuel savings. Photos by Andy Behlen
