Local Man Found Guilty Of 5 Felony Sex Crimes

A criminal trial took place this week in the 155th District Court of Fayette County against Jackie Glenn Wotipka.

Wotipka, 53 of La Grange, stood accused of three counts of first degree felony sexual assault of a child and two counts of second degree felony indecency with a child by contact. Jury selection took place Monday, June 9. The trial began on Tuesday and continued Wednesday. Arguments wrapped up around noon on Wednesday and the jury began deliberating around 12:45 p.m. They returned their verdict just before 4 p.m. – guilty on all five counts.

The victim, who went by the pseudonym “Nancy Drew” throughout the trial, took the stand and accused Wotipka of engaging in sexual acts with her in December of 2013 when she was under the age of 17. She did not report the crimes until she was in her late 20s.

The punishment phase was set to commence Thursday morning, after this issue went to press. Wotipka faces a possible life sentence due to a previous conviction for sexually assaulting a child in 1998. Look for more on the trial in Tuesday issue of the Record.
