Lightning Strike Sparks House Fire Near Round Top

A lightning strike is believed to have caused a house fire Monday morning on FM 954 near Roznov Road. Firefighters quickly extinguished the blaze, and no injuries were reported.

Fayette County Sheriff Keith Korenek reports on Monday morning around 7:56 a.m. the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call reporting a structure fire possibly caused by lightning on FM 954 near Roznov Rd.

The Round Top-Warrenton Volunteer Fire Department was notified and responded to the scene with Deputy Ty Roggenkamp, and Fayette County EMS Medic 2. Upon arrival it was reported the house had smoke in the residence. The fire was quickly contained and extinguished with no reported injuries.

The cause of the fire was confirmed as lightning. The homeowner heard the strike and shortly after reported the smell of smoke.
