Handbell Choir

You are cordially invited to a concert presented by The Glory Tones Handbell Choir this Sunday, May 18 at 2 p.m. at New Life Methodist Church located at 1215 N. Von Minden St. in La Grange. Titled “A Ringing Celebration,” the performance will showcase many beautiful pieces as we celebrate the church’s return to our newly renovated sanctuary.

Bingo In Ledbetter

Bingo for Seniors (60 and older plus guests) will be held at the Ledbetter Community Center on Sunday, May 18 from 2-4 p.m. Doors open at 1:30 p.m. $5/card covers all games with prizes awarded for each game. Chips, snacks and drinks will be available for a free-will donation.

Free Movie “A Question of Faith”

Miracle Temple Church located at 1108 E. Fannin in La Grange will have a free movie on Saturday, May 17. Doors open at 2 p.m. and movie starts at 3 p.m. Refreshments are available for purchase.

Slavnost Set For May 18

The Texas Czech Heritage and Cultural Center (TCHCC) in La Grange invites you to a family Sunday funday filled with music, food, laughter, Czech culture and remembrance during the 24th annual Slavnost ‘May Fest’ on May 18. Festivities begin with a recognition ceremony at 10:30 a.m. The Czech Immigrants to Texas will be honored and the stones on the Immigrant Wall will be recognized. A special honor will be given to founder and past president of TCHCC, Retta Slavik Chandler, during the ceremony. A chicken fried chicken dinner will be served beginning at 11:30 a.m. Plenty of Czech-style desserts will also be available, along with refreshing beverages of all kinds. There will be live music beginning at 11:30 a.m. (after the ceremony) till 4 p.m. on the deck of the main center by the Donnie Wavra & Friends Orchestra. There will be a special performance by the Stříbrňanka Orchestra from the Czech Republic from 1-2:30 p.m.

Gospel Hymns at Church

First Presbyterian Church of La Grange welcomes saxophonist Ian Schroeder and pianist Miles Gillette this Sunday, May 18, to the 11 a.m. worship service. Ian and Miles will be performing arrangements of favorite Gospel hymns before the service, for the anthem, and as accompaniment to the congregational hymns. We hope you join us. Visitors are always welcome. First Presbyterian is located at 205 S. Franklin St. in La Grange.

FWS Board Meeting

Fayette Water Supply Corporation will be conducting a monthly meeting of the Board of Directors on Monday, May 19 at 4:30 p.m. at the FWSC office located at 200 Bordovsky Road in La Grange. All members are encouraged to attend.

VFW Post No. 5254 & Auxiliary Meeting On Tuesday, May 20, Fayette Memorial VFW Post 5254 and Auxiliary of La Grange will meet in the VFW Post Home at the Fayette County Fairgrounds in La Grange. The Auxiliary will meet at 5 p.m. Post and Auxiliary will hear a Loyalty Day program at 6 p.m. followed by a meal, after which the Post will meet. Potential members are invited to attend.

Flying For Freedom

Join Kyna Stys from the National Museum of the Pacific War, on Tuesday, May 20, at noon via zoom for a Winedale Zoom Talk, Flying for Freedom: The WASP of WWII. She will tell the remarkable story of the Women Airforce Service Pilots (WASP) based in Texas who played a critical role in supporting the war effort during World War II. Republican Women Meeting

The public is invited to attend the Fayette County Republican Women General Meeting on Wednesday, May 21 from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. at Frisch Auf! Valley Country Club, 575 Country Club Drive in La Grange. Lunch is available for $20. The program will feature two candidates: Mr. Don Huffines, running for Texas State Comptroller, and a surprise candidate that will declare his candidacy at the meeting. La Grange Senior Citizen Game Day The La Grange Senior Citizen Activity Center Inc. will host game day on Thursday, May 22 from 9-11:30 a.m. at the City of La Grange Randolph Recreation Center. Buddy Poppies for Memorial Day

The Memorial Day Buddy Poppy drive in the La Grange area by the VFW Auxiliary No. 5254 will be Friday and Saturday, May 23 and May 24. Your donations will benefit Veterans assistance programs. Wear your poppy with pride and remember the sacrifices service members have made for our freedom.

Security and Self Defense Seminar The Round Top Family Library will sponsor a Security and Self Defense seminar on Saturday, May 24 from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. David McCall will be the instructor for this seminar which includes home security, travel precautions and hand-to-hand defense. The self-defense techniques are designed for women, but are effective for anyone. This seminar is highly recommended for students heading to college. Participants must be 16 or older. Grief Support Groups

The Alzheimer’s/Dementia Support group will be held monthly on the second Tuesday of every month from 10 a.m.-11 a.m. at the Hospice Brazos Valley office, 1048 N. Jefferson, La Grange. Loss of a Spouse Support Group will be held monthly on the third Tuesday of every month from 10-11:30 a.m. at the Hospice Brazos Valley office. Loss of a Child support group will be held monthly on the fourth Tuesday of every month from 1011:30 a.m. at the Hospice Brazos Valley office. Thriving in Snake Country Workshop

A Thriving in Snake Country Workshop will be held Friday, June 6 from 5-8:30 p.m. at the Fayette County Ag. Building located at 255 Svoboda Lane, Suite 135, in La Grange. Learn snake safety and identification, how to make your yard snake resistant, and what to do if you or someone else or your pet is bitten. Cost is free and space is limited. Vietnam Veterans Meeting

Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 870 will meet on the third Wednesday of the month at 7 p.m. at the Ammannsville KJT Hall located in Ammannsville. Food and refreshments will be available after the meeting. Members and prospective members are encouraged to attend.
