LGPD Catches One of Alabama’s Most Wanted

La Grange Police arrested a man wanted out of Alabama following a disturbance at a motel Sunday morning. Police also recovered a juvenile female that had been reported missing by her family.

Capt. Troy Stevens of the La Grange Police Department reports that Office Bret Meinardus received a call about a disturbance at the River Valley Inn around 9 a.m. on Sunday, April 19. Upon arrival, Meinardus found 48-year-old Jody Marshall Spurling of Alabama having an argument with two females over some personal property, Stevens said.

Stevens said Spurling was working in the area for an LCRAcontractor. He had been staying at the River Valley Inn with the two females, Stevens said. One of those females was a 15-year-old juvenile that had been reported missing. The other woman was 20-year-old, Stevens said.

Meinardus checked Spurling’s identification and discovered that he had an extensive criminal history as well as an active warrant out of St. Claire County, Alabama, for theft.

Meinardus arrested Spurling for the warrant. Stevens said Spurling was in possession of a THC vape at the time. He may face additional charges in Fayette County related to the missing juvenile and the vape, Stevens said.

Stevens said Police reunited the missing juvenile with her family around 8:30 p.m. on Sunday. Spurling was booked into the Dan R. Beck Justice Center in La Grange while he awaits extradition to Alabama. Spurling’s criminal history includes multiple arrests for theft, receiving stolen property, fraudulent credit card use, and assault on a public servant for ramming a police car with another vehicle during a chase.
