LGISD Poised for Start of New 4-Day School Weeks Coming Up

Superintendent Andy McHazlett reminded the La Grange school board that the new four-day weeks will be starting next week with Oct. 3 being the first Friday off.

He said, “We are anxiously looking forward to that time (off) and I’m hoping that all the reasons we chose to go with this calendar come to fruition. We’re in uncharted waters and we’re excited and nervous at the same time.: Assistant Superintendent Stacy Eilers reported about the plans for the upcoming child care program on Fridays.

She said, “We’ve been working on this since the summer. We started pre-registering back in July. We had 196 people that said they wanted to take advantage of our child care program. It’s a free program.

“We did official registration Sept. 1 and as of today, there are 121 students pre-K through 6th registered for the program.”

She continued, “The majority of them are kindergarten, first, second. Very few pre-K, very few fifth and sixth. So they kind of fall in the middle. Our plan is for our program to be from 8 a.m.3:50 p.m.”

She reminded the board that no transportation will be provided, but the district will be providing lunch – no breakfast. She told the board, “We actually are going to have a true program. The students are going to rotate through stations.”

She stated that there will be some math curriculum and some science – very hands on type of things. They will also go to the library, to the gym, have a computer time and a movie time. There are 22 staff members interested in helping. They are letting the parents know that all school rules have to be followed. The students are still at the campus, t they understand that. All of the school rules will be enforced – including dress code.

There will be a three-strike policy. If the students break the rules, after three then they will not be able to come back to the program.
