LGISD Likely on the Hook for Bathroom Drain Repairs That Will Cost “Hundreds of Thousands”
It’s money down the drain.
La Grange ISD superintendent Andy McHazlett said he fears that the school doesn’t have any legal recourse to get help paying for the sewer drain issues that were recently discovered at the high school that date back to when the school was built 32 years ago. “I think the statute of limitations has run out on that and I think the contractors filed for bankruptcy years ago,” McHazlett said. “I’ve heard there were always problems with those bathrooms, and I guess now we know why.”
The problems were discovered when the school dug into the slab to replace a collapsed pipe and found the bathroom drain pipes sloped 18 inches less (from start to finish) than they were supposed to. McHazlett said he didn’t know exact numbers on how much the additional repair work would cost the school district, but he said it would be “several hundred thousands dollars.”
“It puts us in a bind financially, but we don’t have a choice,” McHazlett said.
