La Grange Elementary School held its annual second grade plant show on Thursday, April 21.

Nearly all of the school’s 124 second graders participated in the show. The youngsters started growing plants either from seed or transplants seven weeks ago. They documented their plant’s growth in a journal.

Last Thursday, the class displayed their plants in the cafeteria. Students in all of the other grades got to walk through and look at the plants at the end of the school day.

“The kids get to enjoy our plants, not only second graders, but all the kids in the school, even the kids in Pre-K and Kindergarten,” said second grader Ally Canada.

“We’ve been doing the plant show for six or seven years,” said second grade teacher Sherry Schmidt. “Every week they had to record in their journals as their plants grew, draw pictures and label it.”

“It’s been a fun second grade project,” Schmidt said. The plant show won’t be

The plant show won’t be the last fun project this year for the second grade class in La Grange. Schmidt said the class will soon begin working on an entrepreneurship project that will culminate in a market day next month. Schmidt said each student will create a product that they will offer for sale at the market day. Students will even develop marketing materials such as television commercials.
