LGISD Disbands Friday Childcare Program

La Grange ISD has informed parents that the school will be disbanding its free Friday childcare program (when the four day school weeks occur) this coming school year. The program began last year to help parents when the school moved to a hybrid four-day school week, but superintendent Andy McHazlett said use of the program, which started at about 140 kids at the start of the school year, had dwindled down to about 50 kids by the end of the school year.

Even those 140 kids at the start was much less usage than was indicated from a parents’ survey before the four-day hybrid schedule was considered, McHazlett said.

“Financially it was best for us to not offer it anymore,” McHazlett said of the Friday child care.

He said he hoped that making the decision now would allow parents enough time to make arrangements for the new school year.
