Here’s more from last Monday’s La Grange ISD school board meeting: 

Budget & Financial Amendments

Several budget amendments moved approved funds between functions (totaling $153,000) to cover contingencies. The 2025-2026 budget adopted: general fund projects a $1.577 million deficit, nutrition fund $182,000 deficit, debt service $71,000 surplus.

The child nutrition fund projections remain conservative due to the calendar changes this year.

Tax Rate Adopted

• New total property tax rate set at $0.77372 per $100 value, a 3.72% decrease.

• Maintenance & operations rate: $0.6561; debt service: $0.11762.

Compensation & Leave Policies

Per House Bill 2, teachers with 5+ years get $8,000 raise; 3–4 years, $4,000; 0–2 years, $3,000 (must teach ≥4 hours/day). Principals, assistant principals, counselors, and the district nurse will receive $3,000–$6,000 raises. Directors, assistant superintendent, paraprofessionals, clerical and auxiliary staff will receive a 5% pay increase of their paygrade midpoint. Health insurance contribution increased by $39 per month. Returning staff will receive a $500 stipend in October and all staff will receive a $500 stipend in November. Since there will be a reduction in teacher workdays to 172; leave has been adjusted to 5 state + 4 local days.
