LCRA Announces First Public Power Plant Project Meeting

The Lower Colorado River Authority scheduled a public meeting at 7:30 on Friday evening in the La Grange High School auditorium to provide details about its proposed Fayette County coal-fired electric generating plant. LCRA officials, along with those from Bechtel Power Corp., the consulting firm that recommended the Fayette County site, planned to attend. In a press release, LCRA General Manager Charles Herring said the discussion would address why LCRA needed a new power plant by 1978, why it must be coal-fired and why it should be built at the Cedar Creek site, what environmental considerations were involved and what the economic impact of the project would be on Fayette County.

Both the La Grange Little League leaders and runnersup were victorious in their Friday night outings. The No. 2 Fayetteville Dodgers took the Yankees, 6-1, in the first game, while the championshipclinching Giants nosed out the Indians, 1-0, in the follow-up. John Cufr threw a three-hit, eight-strikeout hill job at the Yankees for the Dodgers triumph, and he didn’t issue a single free pass. Loser Don Bertsch was tapped for six licks, fanned six and walked three. Lionel Rumancik got a double for the winners, and Bertsch socked a two-bagger for the Yankees. The Giant-Indians game was a real hill dual between Greg Trlicek of the Giants and Jeff Cook of the Indians. Trlicek gave up only one base knock, whiffed 12, didn’t issue a single walk and led his team at bat with a double.

The La Grange Ravens waltzed to their fifth straight victory, and the La Grange Braves pulled off a couple of cliffhangers to stay one game behind a 5-1 in Tri-County Teenage Baseball action. The Ravens romped over the Eagles 17-0 at Eagle Lake, scoring eight runs in the opening inning. Richard Cernoch, who was 3-for-3 at the plate, led off with the first of his two triples, and the issue was never in doubt. Michael Albers pitched the five-inning, no-hitter, striking out six. He also contributed a triple to the eight-hit Raven attack and drove in three runs. Tommy Supak drove in the winning run as the Braves rallied for two in the final frame against the Redbirds. Bradley Kalmus was the leading Braves batter, with two for three, and Ricky Dippel was the winning pitcher.
