Lantern-Led Experience Shines Light on Monument Hill History

In the final scene of the performance, Julia Sinks and Heinrich Kreische, played by Marie Watts and Austin Williams, reflect on the large gathering on Monument Hill in 1848 when the bodies of the Dawson and Mier men were laid to rest.

In Scene 3, Captain William Fisher (Brandon Theut) and his second- in-command, Thomas discuss their limited options during their besiegement at Battle of Mier, reimagined in the Kreische House.

In Scene 1, Karl Oertli, Bill Fisher, Eric Green, Michael Ahart, Mark Mikulin, and Taylor Hendrix act as men preparing their departure for the Dawson Expedition.

In Scene 2, Sisters Olivia and Ida, performed by Sarita Kinsey and Carolina Lira, discuss the events of the Somervell Expedition, leading to the march to Mier, Mexico and eventually the events of the Black Bean Episode.

K reische Brewery & Monument Hill State Historic Sites, in collaboration with Fayette County Community Theatre, held their inaugural performance, “Memories of Monument Hill: A Lantern-Led Theatrical Experience,” on Saturday, Oct. 26. The play shared stories from the Dawson and Mier Expeditions, the events’influence on the people of Fayette County, and the legacy they continue to hold at Monument Hill. Shared through five theatrical scenes, the play provided a unique medium for experiencing the history of this Texas tale. The content was written by Jason Rainey and directed by Melanie Lira.
