them some trouble.”
Though La Grange has been playing well most of the season, they are even tougher since the return two weeks ago of Hernandez, who had injured her knee back in the first game of the season.
“She’s battled so much the last couple of years, an ACL tear (last year) and in the first game this season she tears her meniscus and has to go through physical therapy,” Golan said. “It sparks the other girls because they see she wants to be here, and has battled through all that. She’s a testament to what hard work and sticking with it will do.”
Hernandez said she even surprised herself.
“I think a lot of people thought I was going to hang it up (and not play again) and even I was doubting myself,” Hernandez said. “But through the repetition of physical therapy and the little things, starting from zero and building myself back, I proved a lot to myself – that I can battle back and face adversity.”
And now the Lady Leps are doing that as a team too, as they try to fight back in the district standings.
La Grange plays at Caldwell Tuesday.
