La Grange Noon Lions Club Continues Mission to Bring Sight to Those in Need

Carrying on a nearly century-old promise, the La Grange Noon Lions Club is once again stepping up to bring the gift of sight to those in need.

Inspired by Helen Keller’s historic challenge to the Lions in 1925 to become “knights of the blind,” the club continues to serve the visually impaired both locally and around the world. Through their ongoing eyeglass donation program, the Lions are collecting used prescription glasses and sunglasses to be repurposed for individuals who cannot afford vision care.

Drop boxes placed throughout the La Grange community have helped the club collect enough glasses for this round of donations to provide approximately 1,200 people with the lenses they require.

“Every pair of glasses has the potential to completely change someone’s life,” said Craig Moreau, La Grange Noon Lions President. “It’s something so small to give, but it means everything to someone who can’t see clearly.”

In addition to collecting glasses, the Lions conduct regular vision screenings and carefully match donated lenses to recipients.

Both prescription glasses and non-prescription sunglasses are welcome, as they can be vital in protecting vision in sunny and high-exposure environments.

Residents interested in donating can find drop-off locations at local libraries, businesses and the Fayette County Courthouse. Lion David Wagner (pictured), who collected the glasses, can be reached for further information.
