La Grange Man Dies During Warrant Arrest
The Fayette County Sheriff’s Office reports that a La Grange man shot himself on Friday after deputies stopped him for a warrant arrest.
The report said that on Friday, March 11, Sheriff’s Investigator Marc Bennett obtained an arrest warrant for 43-year-old Jason Nigh of La Grange on allegations of aggravated sexual assault of a child.
Deputy Holly Smith and Bennett located Nigh in La Grange around 5:30 p.m. on Friday. The report said he was traveling on Von Minden Street in a grey Chevy pickup. The deputies stopped Nigh in the 1100 block of Von Minden. Sergeant Ron Naumann of the Sheriff’s Office also arrived on scene. The report said Smith approached the driver’s side of the vehicle to make contact with Nigh.
“Nigh took his life with a handgun immediately upon the contact with Smith,” the report said.
Pct. 1 Justice of the Peace Kyle Hartmann arrived to perform an inquest. Hartmann ordered an autopsy. The Sheriff’s Office investigated the incident and the death was ruled a suicide.
