La Grange to Have Five Contested Races For City/School Posts
Friday was the deadline for folks to file for local city and school board races (not to be confused with the county primaries going on now).
Election Day for these city/school races is May 7.
And we’re headed for a lot of locally contested races for those spots, including battles for three La Grange city council spots, and a pair of three-way races for two La Grange school board positions.
Here’s a compilation of local races. An (I) behind someone’s name indicates they are the incumbent (existing office holder of that spot).
La Grange City Council
Ward 1 – Kathy Weishuhn (I) vs. Sandra Hooper
Ward 2 – Violet Zbranek (I) vs. Kenneth Taylor
Ward 3 – Dustin Littrell (I)
Ward 4 – Quenten Gonzalez (I)
Ward 4 – Chris Jernigan (I) vs. Arthur Bosque
La Grange School Board
Place 1: (Currently held by Dr. Don Mayer who is not running for relection) Anthony Wessels vs. Jan Hill vs. Blake Harbers
Place 2: (currently held by Greg Trlicek, who is not running for relection) Travis Ulrich vs. Brandon Schielack vs. Jim Howse
Place 3: Mary White Gunn (I)
Schulenburg City Council
Place 3 – Howard Stoner vs. Tina Bohlmann (incumbent Ben Herzik is not running)
Place 4 – Clarence Ahlschlager (I)
Place 5 – Larry Veselka (I) vs. Randy Mican
Schulenburg ISD
Two at large spots up for election held by Steve Dees and Tony Shank, they had not re-filed for election as midday Friday. But Shannon Hollas and Joel “Boone” Blansitt had filed for the spots.
City of Flatonia
Mayor – Cody Rokahr vs. Dennis Geesaman (previous mayor Bryan Milson resigned in late 2021)
Council (two at large places): Allen Kocian (I), Pamela Stolarski, and Joanye Eversole (wife of incumbent Mark Eversole who is not running)
