There is no charge for the classes and is a community service project of the La Grange Police Department. After graduation from the class, graduates are eligible to join the Citizens On Patrol program. COP members patrol the city limits of La Grange in a retired patrol car, with a police radio. We act as an extra set of “eyes and ears” for the Police Department. COP members do not carry firearms or have arresting authority, but they are authorized to write warnings and tickets for handicap parking violations within the city limits of La Grange. The COP also performs many services in the community such as assisting with traffic control at various events, parking at the annual Trail of Lights at Monument Hill, and crowd control to name a few. You must be 18 years of age and a resident of Fayette County to join. To join, visit www.lagrangecpaaa. org or come to one of the monthly meetings at the La Grange Municipal Courtroom on the second Tuesday of the month at 6:30 p.m.
