Kyle Janda Ordained a Catholic Deacon

After six years of preparation, La Grange native Kyle Janda was officially ordained into the permanent diaconate of the Catholic Church by Bishop Vasquez Saturday morning at San José Parish in Austin.

Kyle Janda is the son of Karen Janda and the late Tommy Janda. He was born in La Grange and attended Sacred Heart School and is a graduate of La Grange High School. He is married to Katie Janda and they have four beautiful children.

A deacon in the Catholic Church is one that serves the people of God in pastoral ministries. Kyle began his journey to becoming a deacon in the Catholic Church six years ago. Kyle and his wife Katie have gone through six years of formation through intense study, prayer, service to the poor and other pastoral ministry for him to arrive at his ordination day on March 1 at San Jose Catholic Church in Austin. About 100 members of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and School traveled to Austin to witness Deacon Kyle’s ordination and about 700 members of the community participated in his first weekend of Masses where he proclaimed the Gospel and preached the homily. On Saturday night, they celebrated the night away at the KC hall with chicken fried steak, dancing and good music by the Back Porch Boys.

Father Chris Smith of Sacred Heart in La Grange said, “Deacon Kyle will God-willing serve Sacred Heart Catholic Church and School as well as the greater community for 40 years. He will continue to assist at Mass, baptize, help people to enter into the Catholic Church, serve the sick/ elderly and help the priests that come to serve at Sacred Heart for years to come. This weekend was a great blessing for Deacon Kyle, his family, Sacred Heart Catholic Church and School, and the La Grange community.”
