Knights of Columbus and Catholic Daughters Hold Annual Memorial Service

On the evening of Tuesday, Nov. 12, the annual commemoration of departed members of the Knights of Columbus, Chromcik Council No. 2574 of La Grange, Hostyn, and Plum, along with the Catholic Daughters of the Americas, Court Annunciation No. 1962 of La Grange and Plum, and Court Queen of the Holy Rosary No. 2282 of Hostyn took place at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Plum.

Recitation of the Rosary began at 6 p.m. and was led by KC member Larry Sulak. The Memorial Service and Mass commenced after the Rosary with Deputy Grand Knight Aaron Janda giving the welcome.

During the solemn ceremony the names of members who departed this life since the memorial a year ago were read and family members and/or friends carried a lighted candle in procession. These candles of remembrance were placed on a table in front of the altar by KC Warden Jim Kothmann.

Remembered by Duputy Grand Knight Aaron Janda: Andrew L. Kruppa, Virgil T. Richter, Benjamin F. Chovanec, Erwin J. Bayer, Ralph K. Rosenberg, James R. Johnson, David J. DeMarco, Theophil C. Svec, and Arturo Bosque. Court Annunciation Regent Sherry Hebert memorialized 11 Catholic Daughters: Jackie Muzny, Ruth Chovanec, Mary Ann Powell, Anita Proske, Bernice Guettler, Michelle Recek, Barbara Brauner, Dolores Guenther Vacek, Bessie Hoffmann, Linda Winkler, and Nancy Belota. Court Queen of the Holy Rosary Regent Sarah Koehl commemorated 1 member, Margie Janda.

In addition to the above named, a keepsake program also listed the names of all other deceased members, 351 Knights and 181 La Grange/ Plum, 30 Hostyn Catholic Daughters. The banners of the organizations were displayed at the side of the altar.

Celebrant of the Mass and homilist was the Rev. Fr. Edward Winkler. Cocelebrant was the Rev. Fr. Chris Smith.

Music for the Liturgy was provided by Mary Lou Anderle, Ken Brothers and Wayne Beseda of Saints Peter and Paul Parish of Plum. The reading for the Mass and the Prayers of the Faithful were recited by KC Advocate Gary Antosh. Gift bearers were CDA Court No. 2282 member Lillian Kallus and KC member Morgan Smith. Altar server was KC member Larry Sulak.

Afterwards, a time for fellowship took place that included a stew supper provided by the KC’s and desserts by CDA Court Queen of the Holy Rosary.
