KJZT Society Hears from LG Mayor, Donates to SHS

KJZT Family Life Society No. 31 members presented Sacred Heart Catholic School Principal La-Donna Voelkel a check from the KJZT State Office that represented the 50% Matching funds from the plant wheel booth that Society No. 31 sponsored at the recent Sacred Heart Catholic School Spring Festival. On May 19, the second quarterly social of KJZT Family Life, Society No. 31 St. Frances of Rome of La Grange was held at 4:30 p.m. in the Immaculate Heart Room at Sacred Heart Church. President Elizabeth Kallus led opening prayers and the Pledge to the U.S. Flag.

La Grange Mayor Jan Dockery was the guest speaker, and she gave insights into the latest happenings in La Grange; and she also signed the Flag Day Proclamation.

The reading of the minutes of the previous meeting were dispensed, Treasurer Barbara Eilert filed her report, and bills were approved for payment.

Secretary Marilyn Kothmann read several thank you notes and KJZT State Office correspondence that included the information that 52 KJZT Family Life Scholarships will be awarded this year to members who are graduating from high school and those continuing their higher education with a total of $27,850 being awarded.

KJZT Clerical Endowment Fund enrollments report by Vice President Nicole Vasut showed one special birthday and two sympathies by Society No. 31, and twenty-one enrollments by individuals. Kallus gave the publicity and KJZT Traveling Unity Rosary reports.

Unfinished business of Society No. 31: The Plant wheel game at the Sacred Heart School Spring Festival on April 13 was successful with the KJZT State 50% matching funds being $760. Deacon Kyle Janda’s March 1 ordination day cake for his celebration was well received.

The District V Annual Social hosted by Smithville Society No. 69 on March 9 was attended by Elizabeth Kallus, Marilyn and Jim Kothmann, Barbara Eilert, Beatrice Sumbera who received her 75-Year Pin, Joy and Roy Kovar, and Phyllis Chavarria. At this time status certificates for 2024 were presented and Society No. 31 received the highest Platinum Status. Unable to attend but recognized as pin recipients were 75-year Doris Eldridge; 50-year Sheila Kolek, Jodi Langley, and Christy Gabriel Zarrubi.

The XXXVII Regular General Convention of KJZT Family Life will be held in La Grange with a pre-convention social at the Texas Czech Heritage and Cultural Center on Friday, July 11, and then the convention at the KC Hall on Saturday, July 12. Delegates Elizabeth Kallus and Marilyn Kothmann are convention committee co-chairpersons of hospitality, credentials, and mileage.

Under New Business, State Director Joy Kovar held an Officer Social for her Districts III and V on Saturday, May 3, in Fayetteville at Orsak’s Café. Attending were Eliabeth Kallus and Barbara Eilert who heard updates from the State Office.

Motions were made and carried to donate towards the cost of t-shirts for Sacred Heart Church vacation bible school to be held July 8-11; to give a gift to Deacon Kingsley Ohaeri who will be ordained to the priesthood on June 14; and to make a monetary donation to AMEN Food Pantry in La Grange.

Director Joy Kovar sent a message; Phyllis Chavarria won the attendance prize; the Memorare was the closing prayer; and the next quarterly social will be held Aug. 18.
