Katy Man Arrested For DWI, Evading Arrest and Aggravated Assault on A Peace Officer

Fayette County Sheriff Keith Korenek reports on Monday, Nov. 11 at around 10:53 p.m. the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office received information on a reckless, possible intoxicated driver on I-10 at the 661 milemarker, traveling east bound in a grey Chevrolet Silverado truck.

Around 11:53 p.m. DPS Trooper Chase Grillet located a vehicle matching the description in the parking lot of the Texan in Schulenburg. While attempting contact with the driver, the vehicle drove off missing the Trooper and got on I-10 traveling west bound.

Deputies Chris Stansberry, Mark Pritchard, and Sgt. Ron Naumann caught up to the pursuit of the reckless grey Chevy Silverado which refused to stop. The vehicle exited in Flatonia on the feeder road and struck Deputy Stansberry’s vehicle in the rear and kept traveling on the feeder turning on St. Hwy. 95 as the pursuit continued. The vehicle was all over the roadway traveling in the oncoming lanes of traffic traveling on State Hwy. 95 northbound.

Deputy Pritchard was able to get ahead of the pursuit and deployed spike strips around FM 1115 to assist with slowing the vehicle as it drove through the ditch area on both sides of the State Highway until it spun around and Troopers were able to block the vehicle.

Deputies assisted with removing the male subject apparently intoxicated from the vehicle who still refused cooperation with Law Enforcement. Taken into custody was 42-year-old Robert Timothy Peterson of Katy. EMS Medic 4 was dispatched and responded to the scene. Peterson was transported to Smithville Hospital for medical clearance and when released was transported to the Dan R. Beck Justice Center by DPS Trooper Chase Grillet charged with Driving While Intoxicated, Evading Arrest with Vehicle, and Aggravated Assault on A Peace Officer.
