“I had an emotional experience recently during a visit to the La Grange Public Library Historical Department,” said Juneteenth on the Square organizer Verlia Mosley. “Viewing old documents made it clear to me, we are not an invisible people. Unfortunately, we have been conditioned to be ashamed of our history and legacy. Slavery is a blight on our time in America but it does not define us. Bigotry and prejudice have been a constant hindrance to our advancement and freedom. Here in La Grange, all residents have an opportunity to embrace the cultural diversities. Annually, we get to celebrate a Texas Event honoring the freedom of all Texans.
“Come out and join in the festivities and Rich History of the Tri-County area. This all happens on June 11. Your attendance and support will be greatly appreciated. Bring a blanket, a chair, and an ice chest.”
Please contact Verlia Mosley at (979) 702-9441 for any details or information.
The following Saturday, June 18, a Juneteenth parade will be held in downtown La Grange beginning at 10:30 a.m.
