Juneteenth Pagent for Mr. and Mrs. Will be June 18

The Juneteenth Committee is pleased to announce a Mr. and Miss Juneteenth Pageant to be held Saturday, June 18, at 5 p.m. at the Randolph Center in La Grange. The event is open to those three to eighteen years old of all backgrounds.

“Our key goal is empowering and encouraging our youth to be outstanding individuals within our community,” Traye Wright, Pageant Coordinator, explained. “Contestants with the highest scores will be crowned and additional awards will be given to worthy contestants. Miss and Mr. Juneteenth will have the opportunity to receive a scholarship.”

Requirements of participation are as follows:

• Attire is formal wear: this may be, but not limited to, Sunday Best, Party Dress, Flower Girl, Easter Dress, Bridesmaid, Junior Prom Style. The dress length can be tea length, short (at knees or slightly above) or long.

• Essays for ages 13 to 18 will be due June 10. The topic is “What does freedom mean to you?”

• Attendance at the Annual Gospel Music Exposition on Friday June 17, at 6 p.m. (Randolph Center, La Grange, Texas) for a preliminary introduction to the public.

All contestants are invited to ride in the parade the morning of Saturday, June 18, starting at 10:30 a.m.

The deadline to sign up for the pageant is June 1. Applications are available online at www. juneteenthtexas.org or at National Bank and Trust on the square at La Grange.
