Judson Limmer Crowned King At 153rd Annual Schützenfest
The Round Top Rifle Association crowned Judson Limmer of Waldeck as their 2025 Schützenkönig at the 153rd Annual Schützenfest on Sunday, Sept. 21.
The annual members-only competition involves shooting .22 caliber rifles with open sights at a target set up 168 feet away. The goal is to hit the bulls eye which results in a score of 12 points. After a practice shot, members shoot three times. Shots farther away from the bulls eye are awarded fewer points. Members with a score of 29 or better advance to the next round. Three more shots are taken. Those tied with the highest score in the second round compete in a “shoot-off” to determine the Schützenkönig Limmer shot a final score of 33 after a shoot-off. Later that day, Limmer and fellow Rifle Association members paraded through the Round Top Rifle Hall. The Association crowned him with a cedar wreath and pinned a gold medal to his shirt. Association members Dave and Cullen Weishuhn hoisted Limmer into the air three times to shouts of “Hoch sol er leben, hoch sol er leben, drei mal hoch!” Monica Fricke won the ladies’ competition, and Connor Fricke won the kids’ competition.
